Como extensión del Festival de Jazz, el Día Internacional del Jazz en Barcelona es siempre una gran celebración. El Passeig de Gràcia se transforma en un festival al aire libre lleno de música, baile, canto y comunidad. Con un clima primaveral espléndido, el festival de este año arrancó con el increíble talento local de Sunset Rhythm Kings. No podría imaginar una mejor manera de empezar el día.

As an extension of the Festival de Jazz, International Jazz Day in Barcelona is always an immense celebration. Passeig de Gràcia is transformed into an outdoor festival filled with music, dancing, singing and community. With beautiful spring-like weather, this year's festival kicked off with the incredible local talents of the Sunset Rhythm Kings. I couldn't imagine a better way to start a day.

Com el seu nom deixa intuir, els Sunset Rhythm Kings són «el grup resident i ambaixadors del Sunset Jazz Club des de fa anys», explica Alix Levy, director artístic del club gironí, que des de la primera edició del Dia Internacional del Jazz hi participa amb propostes pròpies. Es tracta d’un sextet encapçalat per Dani Alonso, també director de la Barcelona Jazz Orquestra, que farà començar la nostra marató jazzística del dia 26 d’abril amb un «swing contagiós», remata Levy. A banda d’Alonso al trombó, hi seran també Pau Casares al clarinet (que fa doblet aquest dia, donat que també és membre de La Vella Dixieland), Oriol Vallès a la trompeta, Marc Martín al piano, Albert Martínez al contrabaix i Joan Casares a la bateria.

Més d’una generació del jazz fet a Catalunya al servei d’una música nascuda a Nova Orleans, la ciutat de Louis Armstrong, entre molts d’altres. La música, afirmen els Sunset Rhythm Kings amb tota la raó del món, «és el batec de Nova Orleans, i les notes del blues, del jazz, de l’R&B i del soul omplen la nit amb la seva fragància».

Aquest és el nostre petit homenatge Chaplin, amb Alina Sokulska, Víctor DeDiego, David Cid, Adrian Cunningham, Matthew Simon, Jean Pierre Derouard, Marc Martín, Artem Zhuliev, Albert Martínez, Alberto Pérez, i jo mateix.

Va ser un concert solidari per Oxfam, dedicat a la música de cinema, el 2019.
