This year marked the 20th edition of the Pune Design Festival, themed India Lens.

Our film is an ode to “jugaad”, India’s inventive, community-driven design spirit. It highlights the beauty of making, the poetry of problem-solving & the collective pulse that shapes how we see the world.

Among the world’s most respected creative honours, The One Show holds a special place — and receiving India’s only Gold Pencil this year feels profoundly meaningful.

Alongside the Gold, Desi Oon also received two Bronze Pencils in Design in Advertising — Craft / Animation and The Indies — Film & Video, along with a Merit Award.

Grateful to everyone who believed in this film and helped carry Desi Oon this far.

“Murder Mediocrity”— the mantra of this year’s D&AD Festival — is something our Creative Director, Suresh Eriyat, has embodied throughout his trailblazing journey in animation filmmaking. This year marks his fourth time on the jury panel of the prestigious D&AD Awards. Live from Southbank, London.

We first mistook this beautiful little metal trophy from Manchester for a firefly.
Maybe because we miss them so much already. ✨

Turns out, it’s a worker bee.
Another tiny being quietly holding entire worlds together.

Perhaps our confusion says something about the times we live in, when the smallest creatures carrying light, life, and balance are slowly disappearing from our everyday skies.

Our tribute to indigenous ways of approaching innovation in India, through India Lens, was a perfect fit for the theme of “PDF 2026.” In many ways, this spirit was reflected in the very process of making it. From filming and animation to effects and sound, a kind of chaotic inventiveness guided us, constantly finding solutions in unexpected ways.

The energy stayed high throughout, and the process became a space to explore, experiment, and break away from convention. We’re truly honoured that a film born out of this spirit has been selected at Annecy.

With this nomination, India Lens has stayed true to its name, a lens looking outward, reflecting our humble effort to the world. We’re proud to represent a slice of India at this prestigious festival and to share a glimpse of this indigenous ingenuity with everyone.

Some journeys begin quietly, close to the ground and slowly find their way outward.

At ADFEST 2026, Desi Oon was honoured with 2 Gold Lotuses (Music & Production Design) and a Grande for Animation in Film Craft. For a film built patiently, through material, memory, and many hands, this moment feels deeply grounding.

Created with the Centre for Pastoralism, the film carries a story shaped by land, labour, and lived traditions. In a year where the United Nations marks 2026 as the Year of Pastoralists and Rangelands, this recognition feels especially meaningful a reminder that such stories continue to travel and resonate.

With heartfelt thanks to Rajat Dholakia, whose music holds the emotional spine of the film, and to Swanand Kirkire, whose voice and writing bring its spirit alive.
