Playful, personal, and a little bit spooky. Interior designer Deidre Webster (@studio_day_design) has thoughtfully retrofitted her family’s historic Minneapolis Tudor Revival, restoring its original character while layering in local makers, colorful textiles, and thrifted treasures.

Opened up our house for @homeworthy a few weeks ago. Right before the holidays we underwent a “down-date” by retrofitting our kitchen. @helianthuswoodworks came over to make a couple shelves for our range alcove which snowballed into touching every piece of the kitchen. If you watch the video you might even catch evidence of the changes with some blue tape. IYKYK. Link in bio 🎥

When we got to this farmhouse in a historic part of town, it was a sterile white box inside. The client tried to infuse color with furniture and natural signs of life; but they needed more! Michelle of @yourdwellness lives life in the way most of us hope to. Every moment matters and both good and bad are experienced by being present. As a Feng Shui consultant she also understands how the home can directly impact one’s wellbeing. Taking notes from the historic context of the home and the clients personal story, we bombed this house with color and pattern. Every detail is about them and ensuring their day to day life is full of joy. I hope you love your home as much as she and her family do on this ValentinesDay 💝

If it feels like prices are creeping ever upward—well, they are. Three designers offer a peek into what some of their past projects would cost today, and share how they’re talking to clients about what they should expect to spend. For the full story from BOH’s winter print issue, see link in bio.

This living room balances not only design elements, but lifestyle. This client prefers a more contemporary aesthetic, but wanted to keep it “dumb”. No TV, a piano and record player. This room is about disconnecting but not feeling like you’re in a time capsule. Believe me, holding back the whimsy was not as easy as it should be! This place is special and I feel to honored to have been a part of bringing it all together for this client! 📸 @taylorhallobrien

New work that captures the warm inside when it’s a blizzard outside. The idea of putting on a record and calling a friend just to chat sounds like the perfect Sunday. 📸 @taylorhallobrien

Raise your hand if you’re ready to go back to work 🙃 But actually I am! Change energizes me! We have so much happening this spring. New projects starting today, site visits to projects underway and a trip over seas to learn about English craftsmanship and makers. If you’re still in vacation mode, enjoy this vacation cottage by @edgertonandco 📸 @taylorhallobrien

The bathrooms in our Orlando project bring the energy of South Beach in. Bold palettes, cheeky pattern and busy, joyful energy. We wanted to hint at the homes Spanish style architecture with the mosaic tiles, but spin the colors to keep it feeling contemporary. Check out the story in @cabanamagazine *link in bio 📸 @taylorhallobrien

“At their first design meeting, Deidre trusted her instincts and presented a daring design concept, based entirely on the 1996 film The Birdcage, a take on the 1973 French play La Cage aux Folles by Jean Poiret. Deidre explains, “I love the film for its color scheme, set design, and cinematography, but what I love most is the way the film makes you feel. If I could create a home that made Brian and Adam feel the way I did after watching The Birdcage, I knew I would feel an immense amount of pride.” Little did she know, the film was formative for Brian and Adam, and the perfect launch point for the exciting, and very personal, design process that followed over the next two years.”

The powder room was added with not even an inch to spare! We didn’t know exactly where the chimney came up, but we knew it would be close! We ended up needing the smallest sink we could find, but in the end we were able to pass code and get it to work! Thanks to @terra_firma_mn for working through the puzzle with us and staying positive and finding solutions. Swipe to see the planned space before construction began. 📸 @taylorhallobrien
