Ever wonder why we have tomatoes and blueberries? 🐝 It’s thanks to buzz pollination, bumblebees vibrating at high speed to release pollen! This #WorldBeeDay, see how we care for our newest hive in the GROW gallery, featuring help from our partners at the @stlzoo, and learn about these essential pollinators. 🌱 As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of GROW this year, we’re proud to continue bringing the science of agriculture to life, highlighting the journey from farm to table and inspiring future innovators in STEM.

A special thank you to our GROW partners: @ilfarmbureau, @mofarmbureau, @case_ih, @bayer4cropsus, @prairiefarmsdairy, @proudtobebunge, and Mascoutah Equipment Co., Inc. for their ongoing support in growing this experience for our community.

🐋 New in St. Louis!

The largest animal in the world is part of a new exhibit at the Saint Louis Science Center. Stand face to face with a full size replica whale jaw bone and skeleton!

🐋Opening May 23rd, The Blue Whale Story uses life-sized models, scientific discovery, and compelling storytelling to tell about the biggest creature on Earth.

🐋 This exhibit was possible due to the tragic loss of nine endangered blue whales who became trapped in sea ice in Canada. Two of the whales were able to be recovered and studied by scientists to learn more about these incredible creatures.

🔹EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTS 🔹

🐋 View a life-size replica of one of the whales, called blue. This skeleton is 80 feet long and really makes you understand just how enormous these animals really are!

🔹Another fascinating display has a replica full size whale jaw bone you can walk inside of.

❤️See the only full-size blue whale model heart in the world.

💦 Learn about the effects of 19th century whaling and current conservation efforts.

🐋 Learn about the biology and behavior of whalesand about their diet.

💦 Enjoy interactive elements like a whale feeding game, touch a model whale brain, and see how your weight compares to a whale. You can also explore the Whale Sound Chamber to hear surround-sound whale calls.
