How to make yourself tapes pop within your acting. I’ve heard all of the golden rules of taping and I agree with them, when it’s warranted for that character or scene. So many actors hear this and feel like they can’t move and it becomes stilted.

As long as you stay in the frame and it’s not too distracting feel free to move around, use props off camera, be distracted. Whatever it takes to make that scene feel reel in an empty white bedroom, do it. You are trying to create a world solely within your acting so help us delve into that world. Make it feel real.

Now let me just say this for the people in the back… YOUR ACTING COMES FIRST.

I only do this because I enjoy it, it’s fun for me and I’m a filmmaker. You DO NOT have to do this to book roles. Some actors get overwhelmed and frustrated with how much tech is involved in acting these days. But if you are like me, I’m into the art and the business. I’m fascinated with how the industry runs. How to sell yourself, how to market yourself, how to leverage opportunities, building relationships.

That’s what I teach in my coaching. The business of acting.

Now I will caveat what I said with there is other ways of course. They could be casting something you are perfect for and you just might be right. I’ve had auditions for the big dogs when the time has been right.

What I’m trying teach people is how to take matters into their own hands. Waiting for an audition is untrackable. What you need to be is an ‘active’ actor. What are you doing to achieve your goals. What kind of things can you track to see if what you are doing is working.

Networking with indie filmmakers is trackable. And there are many more ways to succeed as an actor.
