Working out on CoathamMarshes without mains power or WiFi is quite the technical challenge but the testing is going well so fingers crossed we’ll have a fun session tomorrow. This parabolic mic is mind blowing 🤯👌❤️ #sound #soundscape #nature #soundart #fieldrecording

Using hi end parabolic mics, hydrophones and silent disco tech (so as not to disturb the wildlife, including a pair of nesting cranes 😀 🪺) we’ll be listening deeply and making improvised sound with the natural world at Coatham Marshes on Friday 17th April.
The project was commissioned by Prof Sarah Perks and Dr Paul Stewart of @teessideuni in partnership with @thewildlifetrusts and @naturalengland to promote engagement, access and environmental stewardship of wonderful local assets like the Marshes. If you’d like to come, the link to reserve a place is in the bio ⬆️
Places are limited so only sign up if you’re sure you’ll be there 🙂🙏❤️ #nature #conservation #soundart #fieldrecording #performance

A joyful sound. Royal Northern Sinfonia in rehearsals for Our Music, Our Way: a celebration of creativity in Redcar and Cleveland’s community.
Before the trees and the festive wreaths come down, before the decorations get packed away and 2026 comes galloping in with all its demands and opportunities we wanted to share one last project from the many cool and challenging commissions we undertook in 2025.
At the end of the summer we were excited to be chosen by the incredible team of curators @mimauseful to be lead artists on the @remembernaturemetzger project.
The day of art/ activism to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of @gustav_metzger’s original Remember Nature project was a collaboration between arts organisations across the U.K. (including Tate, Serpentine, FACT, Baltic & more) and actions included orchard planting, communal feasts, performances, films, workshops - all with the single goal of standing up for Nature and highlighting the climate catastrophe and species decline.
As MIMA were close to completion on a new pavillion and garden we pitched BIRDY! - a live stream of the garden wildlife (audio and video) that we would turn into improvised electro acoustic music and film in real-time. With the garden still in development (it takes time and effort to build trust with birds, insects and other garden creatures) we used Sally’s established wildlife garden instead. With surveillance, trail cameras, contact mics, hydrophones and field recording kit we brought the sites and sounds of the garden into the pavillion for a day long, drop-in, live improv session.
Our aim was simply to illustrate the joy and wonder that we can all experience through close encounters with our non-human neighbours. And to encourage everyone to cultivate these relationships, inviting nature into our lives by creating habitat and feeding stations. However small your space you CAN make a difference.
Thanks to all who stopped by to listen, watch and chat. To programme director @helen_welford_ , curators Claire Pounder, @libraryoflight, @andreagregsonsculpture andall at MIMA for an amazing day. Thanks also to @judy.hume for the portrait 🙏❤️🙏❤️🐦⬛🐦⬛🐦⬛

Back at the start of 2025 we pitched an idea to our friend @slevin.liam , the creative director of @theauxiliaryprojectspace and @middlesbroughartweek. We wanted to make something beautiful and uplifting that celebrates sustainable energy - and specifically - the offshore wind farm in Teesside. But we really wanted it to be huge and awe inspiring like the turbines themselves.
With Liam’s unwaivering support we put in an @aceagrams bid to fund an orchestral performance of a soundtrack/ soundscape and large scale video work and kept our fingers crossed. In the meantime we started filming the turbines. Battered about in all weathers we lived and breathed sustainable energy and began work on a composition in 3 movements. With a powerful interview from turbine engineer Ray Robinson 🙏🙏 we made the first ambientmovement, composed a Reich-like, orchestral piece for part two and finished with an anthemic AMCA style pop song.
We didn’t get the arts council money (we did learn a lot about bid writing) but miraculously Liam found a way for us to realise our grand vision. He secured the big tech we needed and @middlesbrough_townhall for a performance on the festival’s opening night. We put a small ensemble of brilliant, talented musicians (@moragcreative , @helen.madden1 and Hilaire Agnama) and Al McNihol and @simco (live sound and video tech ) together and voila! Performing The Power of 3 was one of the highlights of our professional career and we can’t thank everyone enough for coming along for the ride. Special thanks also to @racheldeakin_ for the wonderful photographs 🙏🔥
And it wasn’t a one off. Our agents @thepoolartists are in talks with venues and festivals now and with the help of yet more enlightened folk we’ll be bringing it to your town in 2026. 🙏❤️

Oof. Still laughing to myself about the joy of John Shuttleworth. Shout out to anyone who’s first keyboard was a Yamaha 👊

What an amazing experience to open for @middlesbroughartweek Thanks to our incredible team who made it possible - see post by @sallycalledadam
