WIP | ADDA: Game On! | An Urban Tactical Intervention, Ballygunge

Work in progress from ADDA: Game On!, curated under St+art Kolkata 2025 by St+art India Foundation, with support from Asian Paints (@asianpaints).

The intervention reimagines a familiar stretch of Ballygunge as a place to pause, play, gather, and linger. Drawing from Kolkata’s culture of adda, it brings together chess and carrom tables, hopscotch markings, informal seating, interactive surfaces, upcycled paint-bucket planters, and modular elements that turn everyday waiting into shared activity.

Its visual language draws from the city itself: tram lines, yellow taxis, football culture, festive light, and alpana-inspired patterns. Colour, supported by Asian Paints’ material and surface expertise, helps organise the space and make public use more visible.

Rather than prescribing behaviour, ADDA: Game On! creates the conditions for comfort, access, and return, treating the street as a shared civic space shaped by everyday presence.

Concept Lead: Depanshu Gola (@depanshu.gola)
Design Team: Pragyesh Parmer (@rerioz) & Jay Dhanukiya
Project manager: @sumeet_gupta

The Cycle Rickshaw Project draws directly from some of Lodhi Art District’s most recognisable murals, bringing together distinct artistic languages that have shaped the site over the years.

Works by Bhajju Shyam (@bhajjushyam), Lady AIKO (@ladyaiko_nyc), Aravani Art Project (@aravaniartproject), Senkoe (@senkoeone), and Hanif Kureshi × Georgia Hill (@hanifkureshi x @georgiahillbth) are translated onto these moving surfaces, each chosen for how they represent a different way of engaging with the street. From Bhajju Shyam’s Gond-inspired visual storytelling, rooted in indigenous knowledge systems, to Lady AIKO’s intricate stencil work that speaks to resilience and presence. From the Aravani Art Project’s assertion of visibility and community, to Senkoe’s vibrant explorations of migration and cultural exchange, and the typographic interplay of language and belonging in Hanif and Georgia Hill’s collaboration.

Together, these works hold the diversity of Lodhi’s visual identity. Reinterpreted across the roof, seat, and frame of each rickshaw, these murals shift from static walls to moving fragments. As they travel through the city, they carry with them pieces of Lodhi’s language, allowing these representative works to extend beyond the district and into everyday routes.

In doing so, the project reflects what Lodhi has always stood for, a space where multiple practices coexist, and where public art remains open, accessible, and in constant movement.

Reveal | The Forest in Me by Svabhu Kohli × Ram Sangchoju | Lodhi Art Festival 2026

The Forest in Me draws two distant ecologies into relation, the Western Ghats and the forests of Pakke Tiger Reserve, with Lodhi becoming their point of intersection.

Svabhu’s (@svabhukohli) engagement with the Western Ghats brings a way of understanding forests as interconnected systems shaped by care and interdependence. Ram’s drawings, rooted in his immediate surroundings near Pakke, move more intuitively, where animals and forms shift between the real and the imagined.

Across the wall, these worlds do not merge into one. They remain distinct, yet porous. Species travel, forms transform, and a central threshold opens up a space where interior and exterior, distance and proximity, begin to collapse.

What the mural constructs is not a landscape, but a meeting, where different forests, and different ways of knowing them, coexist within the city.

Reveal | Garden of Encounters by SUSO33, Tarini Sethi & Ishaan Bharat | Lodhi Art Festival 2026

Garden of Encounters, created as an ode to India–Spain Dual Year 2026, treats the wall as a site where practices meet without collapsing into one another.

SUSO33’s (@suso33) figures register the speed and repetition of urban life, bodies stripped of identity yet shaping space through movement. In response, Ishaan Bharat (@0sheen)introduces speculative forms drawn from Indian craft traditions, extending them into futures where the body is fluid, altered, and continuously becoming.

Tarini Sethi’s (@tarinisethi) intervention threads through this exchange, drawing from modernist vocabularies that have long moved between Europe and India. Her figures hold both familiarity and distortion, suggesting how visual languages persist and transform across contexts.

The mural does not attempt synthesis. Instead, it holds tension, allowing multiple visual systems to exist simultaneously, shaped by the architecture it inhabits and the histories it carries.

This mural begins with a window.

For Ram Sangchoju, the forest is something observed closely, from just beyond reach. Animals, plants, and imagined beings emerge through that act of looking, where attention becomes a way of moving through the world.

During the Lodhi Art Festival, this perspective meets Svabhu Kohli’s (@svabhukohli) practice, shaped by ecological research and work in the Western Ghats. Together, they build a shared landscape where forests from different regions begin to overlap.

What unfolds is not a single place, but a way of seeing that connects them.

Reveal | Jolies Flowers by Nicolas Barrome Forgues | Lodhi Art Festival 2026

With Jolies Flowers, by Nicolas (@nicholas.barrome.forgues), the idea of a garden shifts from place to experience.

These surreal, humanised blooms emerge within the existing fabric of Lodhi, soft structures set against concrete, volume held by air rather than mass. Their temporality is central, they arrive, expand, and recede, leaving no trace except the memory of encounter.
What the installation offers is not spectacle, but a subtle recalibration, where the street briefly opens up to pause, curiosity, and collective attention.

Garden of Encounters unfolds as a meeting ground between practices shaped across India and Spain.

Created during the Lodhi Art Festival as an ode to India–Spain Dual Year 2026, the mural brings together SUSO33’s(@suso33) kinetic, faceless bodies, Tarini Sethi’s (@tarinisethi) modernist figuration, and Ishaan Bharat’s (@0sheen) speculative, craft-inflected forms.

Each enters with a distinct visual language, but the wall doesn’t resolve them into one. Bodies repeat, mutate, and overlap. Ornament becomes structure. Histories move across geographies without settling.

What emerges is not a singular image, but a space of encounter.
