🌒 The No Moon: A Visual Album - NYC Film Premiere 🌒 was a BEAUTIFUL, INSPIRING event 💕 We can't thank you all enough for showing up for @spoonjackson in the most genuine way possible. SO many lifers yearn for the love and support of just ONE person, yet the many decades of solitude has effectively made them invisible. 💔💔💔
The fact that Spoon has NEVER been to NYC, hasn't walked on free land in almost 50 YEARS, yet a roomful of people pulled up to hear his words & see art inspired by his gift is such a BIG DEAL !!! At times we lose sight of our victories in this fight that often feels insurmountable, but Saturday was a WIN 💪🏾 Thank y'all so much 🤲🏾
The film was INCREDIBLE! ❤️🔥 🎞 Thank you to all the filmmakers who created precious work for the cause. We would love to hear what your fav films were! (Leave a comment 👇🏾) Gratitude to everyone who had a hand in pulling the event together. The petition for Spoon's clemency launched with intention & energy. Please sign if you haven’t already & share it within your network (Link In Bio). We love y'all & can't thank you enough. Until next time….🫶🏾🙏🏾💪🏾

@spoonjackson and his friend @scott_nolan_langrud_music shared some poems with us to help us move from winter into spring 🌱🌱🌱

Happy Spoonful of Wisdom Sunday! Here's Spoon on *perfection* "I think perfection is an individual thing - you’re perfect at being who you are and I’m perfect at being who I am. Perfection is walking in your own shoes, and learning and growing, and being the best at who you can be. None of us can be anything other than who we are. To be perfect, you gotta be imperfect. Find what you do best, in the art world or the normal world, and do it your best."
🐇🐇🐇
Spoon would like to hear about your ideas of perfection, and what being the best you looks like in your life. Let's celebrate all of our differences!
🐇🐇🐇
You'll notice that each of these bunnies made by @janekimtesta are being their own best selves. We will have them available for adoption at the upcoming Forbes Library Zine Fest in Northampton on February 7th.

🎬 We’re proud to be partnering with @circlecinema to bring “Spoon” to Tulsa for its first-ever showing in the US. Written, directed, and produced by Michka Saäl (1949-2017), “Spoon” follows the poetic and political dialogue between the filmmaker and Spoon Jackson, a poet, musician, visual artist, and teacher serving life without parole in CA.
@spoonjackson is a close friend of ours at JustArts and we’re honored to share his work. Our founder first connected with him 15 years ago when she interviewed him for an article about the memoir he co-wrote with his poetry teacher, the late Judith Tannenbaum. Both quickly became mentors to her and Spoon’s friendship and support has endured through the years.
✍🏽 More about Spoon:
Spoon Jackson was sentenced to Life Without Possibility of Parole (LWOP) when he was twenty years old, and has written and published poems, essays, novels, memoirs, and plays for the nearly 50 years he has been behind bars. He is a creator of the award-winning podcast @we.are.uncuffed.
Spoon is the co-author of the double memoir By Heart: Poetry, Prison, and Two Lives (New Village Press, 2010), with Judith Tannenbaum, and co-editor of an homage to Tannenbaum, The Book of Judith: Opening Hearts Through Poetry (New Village Press, 2022) with Mark Foss and Sara Press. His poetry is collected in Longer Ago (2010).
Spoon has collaborated with other artists on several projects, including the @prisonmusicproject with @zoeboekbinder and @anidifranco; “Barstow”, a film by Rainer Komers; and “Three Poems by Spoon Jackson”, a documentary by Michel Wenser. He recently released his first album, No Moon, through @freer_records, and was interviewed in a recent feature from Olivia Durif, LA Review of Books.
@rabbits_of_realness is a publishing project launched by Spoon and @saramarie_creates.
📆 Join us at Circle for a free screening of “Spoon” on 1/8 at 7pm. Come at 6pm for a reception to celebrate the launch of our exhibition in Circle’s gallery, where you can view some of Spoon’s art!

🚨🚨 SPOON NEEDS OUR HELP 🚨🚨
Prolific Poet Spoon Jackson is working on a campaign to raise fees for a review of his case under the Racial Justice Act in California ‼️
Over 48 years, Spoon has transformed himself through art, empathy, and teaching. He's a mentor, and peace-builder who helped launch California’s Arts in Corrections program. His writings have inspired students, artists, and incarcerated people worldwide 🌎
Now 67, Spoon faces serious health problems — diabetes, hypertension, and lasting complications from COVID-19. He has been hospitalized multiple times and transferred between facilities as his health declines.
The chance to file under the Racial Justice Act is time-limited. His health makes this the moment to act — before that window closes 😬🙏🏾
Where Your Donation Goes 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
💯 Legal fees and filings under California’s Racial Justice Act
🧐 Attorney time to review trial records and prepare filings
✊🏾 Consultation and coordination with advocacy groups supporting the case
💪🏾 Every dollar helps secure the professional legal support needed to challenge a racially tainted conviction
Please donate, share, and be part of this movement for justice ‼️🙏🏾

I’ve been incarcerated since a gallon of gas was 65 cents. Here are the top 5 sitcoms of that year:
1. Laverne & Shirley (ABC)
2. Happy Days (ABC)
3. Three’s Company (ABC)
4. 60 Minutes (CBS)
5. Charlie’s Angels (ABC)
I have learned so much & have done my best to lead with love in all I do in these past 48 years. Please consider signing my petition for clemency today. I love you all ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹

I’ll release the past because forgiveness springs forward…
And hate falls back…
I’ll never forget what I’ve done…
But I cannot go back and peel back the sun…
I’ll release the past and push on the gas…
And I’ll keep moving forward because the future will last…
What’s done is done, and I cannot go back and peel back the sun…
I’ll blaze a new trail, and I’ll never get derailed…
Even if hope has no wind in its sails…
I am not my worst act, nor will I forget the past…
And I must accept it and release it for only the future lasts…
And I cannot go back and peel back the sun…
One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was forgive myself for the devastating harm I’ve caused. I can only pray society can one day forgive me 🙏🏾I’ve been incarcerated for 48 years. Please share my petition for clemency if you’ve already signed it. Thank you all. Much Love 💕
