Jon Batiste had this suit arriving from Dolce & Gabbana and his team wanted to make sure that the imagery would show off what the suit was made of (literally). I love shooting film simply because it always comes back looking exactly how I was hoping, but I was not prepared for how spectacular and sparkly the suit would look on the 16mm. We had two Alexas rolling as well, and it's not even close. Gaffer Julia Gowesky and I set up a semi-circle of 2K Fresnels around the front of the stage, dimmed way down to catch the sequins and make them sparkle. You can see them when the camera moves behind Jon halfway through the film.

The live take of "Tell The Truth" performed by Jon Batiste and his band was filmed in a single take by an incredible crew, working on the fly with almost no rehearsal. We shot a single roll of Kodak 7219, processed and scanned at Metropolis post.
