The four songs on “All I Left Behind” reflect on a journey that may leave former connections to deteriorate, making decisions for yourself and forgiving yourself for past mistakes.

SPEAR is zo’n band die niet jarenlang nodig had om op te vallen. Vanaf de eerste shows werd duidelijk dat hier meer stond dan zomaar een groep muzikanten met een liefde voor hardcore. Wat begon als een gedeelde fascinatie voor de rauwe hardcore-sound van eind jaren ’90 en begin jaren ’00, groeide razendsnel uit tot een band die binnen de scene steeds meer terrein verovert. Niet door de grootste mond te hebben, maar door simpelweg keer op keer te laten zien dat ze precies weten wat ze willen uitstralen.
Hun muziek balanceert perfect tussen melodie en pure agressie. Tempogedreven riffs vliegen je om de oren, terwijl zware breakdowns als een mokerslag binnenkomen. Alles voelt doordacht zonder klinisch te worden. @spear_hc klinkt namelijk nooit alsof ze bezig zijn met het afvinken van hardcoreclichés; de nummers leven, ademen en trekken je mee van begin tot eind. Live vertaalt zich dat naar een intensiteit die moeilijk te negeren is.
Waar de band een jaar geleden al indruk maakte, staat er inmiddels een groep die met volledige overtuiging iedere zaal naar zijn hand zet.
Ook inhoudelijk raakt SPEAR een snaar. Hun teksten zijn eerlijk, persoonlijk en rauw, zonder te vervallen in goedkoop drama. Thema’s als verlies, verandering, schuldgevoel en zelfreflectie lopen als een rode draad door hun muziek heen. Dat hoor je keihard terug op de nieuwe EP All I Left Behind, waarop de band laat horen hoeveel stappen er in korte tijd zijn gezet. De vier tracks klinken urgent, volwassen en vooral alsof SPEAR nog lang niet klaar is met groeien.
Vandaag staan ze bij ons in de uitzending van Live & Puur op KINK Distortion en eerlijk gezegd verbaast het ons niets dat deze band steeds grotere stappen begint te zetten. SPEAR is geen hype die even voorbijwaait. Dit is een band die zichzelf meedogenloos vastbijt in de hardcore-scene.

Inspired by hardcore bands from the late ’90s and early 2000s, SPEAR formed in 2023 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Melodic, tempo-driven songs combined with metallic breakdowns and sharp riffs come together in energetic, high-powered live sets that stay true to hardcore roots while delivering a distinct and modern sound.
With their debut EP All I Left Behind in their luggage, SPEAR are ready to take things beyond their home country with relentless passion and authenticity. This marks their second show in Germany . love at first (live) sight.
