Efraín Solís makes a role and a company debut tonight. At the Spoleto Festival USA, he is Bob—Letitia’s love interest and escaped convict, not at all reformed from his previous ways—in The Old Maid and the Thief. Daisy Evans directs this new production of the word by Menotti, the festival’s founder, and Music Director Timothy Myers conducts the performances running through the end of the month.

Efraín Solís is back on The Metropolitan Opera stage tonight. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay returns for an unprecedented short run during the usually dark winter period, planned after the world premiere’s massive success opening the season. He returns to reprise his winning characterization of Salvador Dalí in Mason Bates and Gene Scheer’s new opera based on Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel set amid the strife and relief efforts of World War II—in this acclaimed production by Bartlett Sher conducted in this iteration by Michael Christie.
