🤓 Principle 8 of 11! As an artist and advocate for artists (and the decolonization of creativity in our hearts, minds, and ecosystems), I think about these topics a lot, so I been sharing more behind WHY we move how we move: in #CreativeSolidarity here @OnTheBlockSeattle - a hyperlocal ecosystem which includes our 4 creative spaces, but more importantly our community of four dozen individual creatives repping dozens of microbusinesses, and autonomous entities.

💡This series offers 11 Principles for Creative Liberation for systems change in Creative Economy.

1️⃣ You are not a “product”, you are labor producing value in systems.

2️⃣ The “self-made/lone wolf/genius” ideal is FUNCTIONAL mythology that keeps you burnt out and isolated from power.

3️⃣ Collaboration is collective strategy. We must prioritize it if we seek to transform systems in creative industries.

4️⃣ Not all your labor is recognized and compensated for in current systems, but ALL of it produces VALUE 💰

5️⃣ Platforms and markets are not neutral. As much as we invest into extractive systems, we must seek to match in building alternatives 🧱

6️⃣ Creative and cultural extraction is often masked as opportunity. We must broaden our scope to an ecosystems-level analysis to see the full picture.

7️⃣ Space 👏 is 👏 power! BUT ownership and stewardship structures of any given space determine WHO its power serves 👀

8️⃣ Community solutions already exist 💯. Build from them!!!

📚 More: On The Block is a living creative ecosystem advancing the mission of Seattle Artist Coalition for Equitable Development reclaiming space and agency for artists, cultural workers, and historically displaced communities.

✊ Through creative-solution making, coordination, and direct investment, Seattle ACED works to ensure that artists and cultural workers are not displaced by urban change—but are resourced and positioned to shape it.

I used to think it was about being seen. Now I know it’s about being felt. Presence over noise, discipline over hype. The work speaks before I ever have to.

If you’re planning a photoshoot in Seattle, save this. 📍

Most people pick a studio based on how it looks online…
then show up and realize it doesn’t match their vision.
That’s why I put together this list—
real studios, real setups, real results.

Here’s 10 of the best photo studios in Seattle 👇

1. So Below Studio
Underground aesthetic—perfect for cinematic and creative shoots. Tons of available props for use, with the lowest starting rate per hour. Located in the heart of Capitol Hill.

2. Lumos Studio
Fully controlled lighting environment—no natural light, but comes with strobes, continuous lighting, and an 84” softbox to simulate daylight exactly how you want it. Tons of backdrops + gear included.

3. Columbia Creative Space
Huge loft with exposed brick + hardwood floors, 17 windows bringing in strong natural light—perfect for bright editorial or lifestyle shoots.

4. Hidden Gem Little White House
Small boutique-style studio in a private garden—super unique, styled, and intimate for creative concepts.

5. 701 Studios
Flexible setup with rolling walls, backdrops, and props—great for fashion, portraits, and switching looks mid-shoot.

6. Olive Creative Studio
Mid-century styled space with plants, arches, and east-facing windows—perfect soft light for lifestyle and brand content.

7. Neu Haus Studio
Desert-inspired editorial space with lime wash walls, furniture, and west-facing windows for that golden sunset glow.

8. House Wight Studio
Clean, bright aesthetic with hardwood floors and natural light—simple, polished, and versatile.

9. Lumeworks Studio
Two shooting rooms with separate setups—great for portraits or more controlled sessions in a smaller space.

10. The Pioneer Collective (Seattle)
Lifestyle/workspace vibe—perfect for branding, business content, and clean aesthetic shoots.

Hit the link in bio and book your shoot 📸
I’ll help you pick the right studio, plan the shoot, and actually bring your vision to life.

“How long does a photoshoot actually take?”

Most people imagine one of two extremes:
either super quick or an all-day thing.
but the truth is — it sits right in the middle.

And that’s the part most people don’t realize.

Because a good photoshoot isn’t about rushing through it…
but it’s also not about dragging it out either.

It’s long enough for you to get comfortable in front of the camera,
because let’s be real… almost everyone starts off a little awkward.

You need a little time to warm up,
figure out your angles,
get used to being seen,
and actually start feeling like yourself.

That’s when the real photos start happening.

But at the same time…

It’s structured enough that you’re never just standing there wondering what to do.

You’re being guided the whole time,
so every minute actually counts.

No wasted time.
No confusion.
No awkward silence.

Just a smooth flow from start to finish.

So it’s not rushed…
and it’s not overwhelming either.

It’s really just that perfect pocket of time where
you stop thinking so much…

and start naturally stepping into your look, your energy, your presence.

That’s when the shots actually hit different.

So if you’ve been putting off a shoot
because you didn’t know what to expect…

or you thought it would be too fast
or way too long…

that’s not how it works.

It’s built around making sure you look your best
without feeling pressured.

If you’ve been thinking about a photoshoot, don’t guess your way through it, hit the link in my bio and book your shoot today!

🤓 Pt. 3 of 3: As an artist and advocate for artists (and the decolonization of creativity in our hearts, minds, and ecosystems), I think about these topics a lot, so I been sharing more behind WHY we move how we move: in #CreativeSolidarity here @OnTheBlockSeattle - a hyperlocal ecosystem which includes not only our spaces @BlueConeStudios @SoBelow_Seattle @TheStudy_Seattle and our newest space @ElevenElevenSeattle, but more importantly our community of four dozen individual BIPOC creatives repping dozens of microbusinesses, and autonomous entities.

🔗Part 3 hopes to lay groundworkthat seeks to broadens how WE as artists think about and navigate “monetization”. Can what’s good for our mental health and ethics be good for our pockets? Yes. It can be even better. If we ain’t SOLELY focused on replicating colonized frameworks on creative #ecosystems in our approaches. More later.

🙏 Gratitude to @EricAngelo_Ms for putting Grace Lee Boggs “Organization of Commitment” in our timelines!! I stumbled upon this series this morning and hope you don’t mind I snagged this snippet to cut in because this is 📠💯📠

Part 2 of 3

🤓 As an artist and advocate for artists (and the decolonization of creativity), I think about these topics a lot, so I want to start sharing more background and theory behind WHY we move how we move - in #CreativeSolidarity here @OnTheBlockSeattle in our hyperlocal ecosystem of spaces which includes @BlueConeStudios @SoBelow_Seattle @TheStudy_Seattle and our newest space @ElevenElevenSeattle.

🔗Part 2 is brief overview on impact of lopsided approach to“Creative Economy” Development and the role that creatives can unwittingly play in lopsided outcomes.

📚 More: On The Block/Forever Safe Spaces is a living creative ecosystem advancing the mission of Seattle Artist Coalition for Equitable Development, a fiscally sponsored Washington State nonprofit dedicated to reclaiming space and agency for artists, cultural workers, and historically displaced communities.
