ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT :

Time Passes is a limited edition of 100 hand-bound books by Shari Diamond @sharidiamond , printed using a Risograph Duplicator. Through a blend of image and text, the book meditates on the human condition—navigating themes such as aging, mortality, remembrance, and the ways our stories are preserved, altered, or forgotten.

Inspired by Joan Didion’s reflections in Blue Nights —“Memory fades. Memory adjusts. Memory conforms to what we think we remember”—Time Passes centers on 60 images from Diamond’s The 60 Year Project. Each image marks a pivotal moment from each year of the artist’s life.

The 60 photographs, sourced from Diamond’s personal and family archives, have been transformed through digital drawing and tin-type printing. This process distills each image to its emotional core, creating a visual language that resonates with both personal significance and universal meaning. From early childhood through adulthood, the series captures everyday scenes and life-altering events alike—stories that are at once deeply individual and widely relatable.

Shari Diamond is a queer photographic artist whose art practice investigates topics ranging from borders and boundaries, sexuality, gender, immortality, and impermanence to human relations. They currently live and work in New York City and Newburgh, NY.

Diamond’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Leslie-Lohman Museum, The New School Archives and Special Collections, and numerous private collections. Their images have appeared in popular television, including Succession and Dietland, and have been exhibited in prominent venues across the United States—including the Samuel Dorsky Museum and the Leslie-Lohman Museum—as well as internationally in Mexico, Israel, and Japan.

Off we go to Newburgh. Hard to believe that in June it’ll be 10 years since I bought my house and studio. Lately I’ve been wondering if it might be time for a change. We’ll see.

My father would have been 97 years old today. Thinking of him with love and appreciation.

After a busy work week, I’m back at a pilates class. I started doing pilates in February and it has felt so good, physically and emotionally.

My last sight on the subway riding home following dinner with Joan.
After taking the photo I couldn’t help but think about a teacher, when I first was learning about photography at the U of M who wrote on the back of my print “try to avoid crotch shots.”
