SFUSD Arts Department
The Arts Dept of @sfunified, supporting the creative disciplines: Dance, Music, Theater, Visual Art, Media Arts and STEAM #ArtsinSF #WeAreSFUSD 🎭🎨🎶💃🏿

We are very excited to share that MLK Cobra Band and SFUSD ArtsDepartment will be hosting our second annual Rock on the Hill modern band festival! The festival will feature music from multiple genres (Rock, Jazz, Grunge, R&B, Hip Hop and more), and will be held at a legendary SF live music venue. The Bottom of the Hill has been a mainstay of the SF music scene for 35 years, and has hosted many emerging acts who have gone on to be huge stars. Sadly, on new year’s day 2026, they announced that December 31st 2026 will be their last show. The White Stripes, Green Day, Arcade Fire, The Beastie Boys, Oasis are just a handful of the 10,000+ bands that this stage has hosted - and we SFUSD music educators are excited to share this stage with the next generation of rock stars! Participating band programs from MLK Middle School, Lowell, Burton and Wallenberg High Schools will be showcasing 12 small student groups for your enjoyment. Please don’t miss this super special event (and please reach out if an event like this would be something you would like to participate in next year!)

Monoprinting at Sanchez Elementary with first grader!
Students inked up their plate with the brayer, drew with their cotton swaps to remove some ink, laid their paper down and pressed along the back, then Voila!🪄 they pulled their print!
Mr. Jason reminded students there are no wrong answers here, and to experiment and pull as many prints as they could. Then they will be curating a final edition (series) of their favorites and explaining why they made their choices.
Every single student is in their painting shirt, sleeves rolled up and totally in the flow, making original artwork with lots of Wowww moments 😁
We love to see it!
Starting the morning off @sutro_elementary_school in 3rd grade with some dynamic animations 💡 ✍️ 💻💥 Thanks Mr. Starfas for the fun lesson 🙌
Students are using the rules of animation (speed, spacing & acceleration, squash & stretch, anticipation, overshooting and arcs) to make original artwork in motion.
Pixar and Disney, we have some artists coming your way! ✨️

Now in its 57th season, the San Francisco Arts Education Project continues to explore the relationship between artist mentors and their students in its annual Dialogues exhibit, which asks: Who inspires whom? Is resonance reciprocal?
Showcasing the mutual exchange of formal, material, or conceptual elements found in the work of both the older and the younger artists, the work of SFArtsED artist mentors is presented in conjunction with student work created during each artist’s San Francisco Unified School District in-school or after-school arts residency.
This year’s exhibition also features work created in the SFUSD Libraries Artist-in-Residence program, a collaboration between SFArtsED and the district that invites students to make art during their lunch break. And, for the first time in an SFArtsED exhibition, we are proud to share the work of TK (transitioinal kindergarten) students.
