John always rooted for the underdog and went out of his way to support me when I didn’t have a team. Thank you @sesac thank you @liverpoolsoundcity and thank you John. I hope a part of you lives through my music and journey. He’s still helping artists even now.

Since joining SESAC in 2012, John helped build and support a remarkable group of creators, including #GlassAnimals, #MumfordandSons, #AltJ, #RexOrangeCounty, #Disclosure, #ThinLizzy, and many others. His work focused on songwriter and publisher relationships across the UK and much of the globe.

To honour his legacy and raise a toast, SESAC has programmed one of the most exciting showcases on the festival bill, with @finnforstermusic, @east_exchange.band, @rubyduffmusic and @adultleisureband taking to the stage at The Shipping Forecast on Saturday 2nd May from 14.30 🙏

To celebrate the launch of the stage, SESAC has announced the John Sweeney Impact Prize and the John Sweeney Legacy Prize, granting two lucky artists a £5,000 bursary in 2026. For the next 3 years, artists who play the John Sweeney stage will be eligible for the John Sweeney Impact Prize. 🏆
