“Throughout his practice, Fernandes has returned to architecture as a choreographic partner, creating sculptural environments that invite performers and audiences to inhabit institutions differently. Like the artists of Judson Dance Theater, who challenged the hierarchies embedded in traditional dance forms and revolutionized the medium through the incorporation of pedestrian movement, Fernandes engages both queer culture and the lexicons of ballet and modern dance. Drawing the training, discipline, and physical rigor of these techniques alongside everyday gesture, his choreography examines how bodies move within, and resist, systems of control.”

Join us for week two of Fernandes’ residency, featuring a dynamic slate of free, public programs from open rehearsals with Laura Baumeister (@laura.baumeister) and Jenna Weatherbie (@jennaa.nicole), to a live performance of Fernandes’ durational, site-specific work 'Score for the Murphy Auditorium', and the world premiere of Baumeister and Weatherbie’s 'Inosculate'.
