Mother 200W MkIII in emerald & checker w/ ported 2x15

Last one—the main hype is understandably around the dirty sounds, but the Mother Preamp also has some verrry nice cleans/low-gain. Got the Accountant compressor on at its most mild, with Sending and the EF-P2 for some vibe and I could sit and play this for hours (which I did)

The Absence control is one of my favorite things about the Mother Preamp—it’s basically like a reverse Presence control, taming the highs without totally blanketing the whole sound, which makes it super flexible for dirty tones, and especially running it as a clean platform like this.

The @scienceamps Mother Preamp has been one of my favorites since I got it—awesome as a two-channel drive pedal, but I *especially* love it for direct recording. This is the dirty channel, straight into my interface with my own IRs of my Avatar 2x12 cab, which has a Greenback and Creamback pair. No post EQ and just a touch of room reverb, absolutely rips.

Direct comparison of the @scienceamps Mother Preamp and the actual amp. Both are running into the Fryette Power Station with a TL806 cab and an SM57.

Amp is first, pedal is second. It’s HARD to tell.

Announcing TOTALITY and EARTHLING MKII.

Admittedly, I am terrible at marketing - I’ve actually been building and shipping these both for a bit over a year now! I was hoping to get my wait time down before launching these, but my recent move to Portland has slowed me down. In any case, I wanted to share the amps, and they are officially available for order. Thanks to the intrepid tone-seekers who have sought out and ordered these before they were officially out - I have been thrilled by all the positive feedback.

The Totality is the new flagship based on the 1st Gen silver knob Sunn Model T. I am lucky to have one on permanent loan here at the shop and always wanted to make something inspired by it. I never set out to clone the Model T on paper (Piotr’s @378amplifiers near-replicas make all others obsolete). My goal with the Totality was Model T on steroids - to achieve the exact tones of the OG, but with both more clean and gain on either end of the dial. The 2nd channel goes into uncharted territory from crunch to extreme high gain. Both channels feature wide-range gain controls and a unique “Tight” controls to completely voice the front-end response. Like all my amps, I opted to keep the controls as refined as possible, even with fully independent dual controls.

The Earthling MkII is a departure from the MkI, which was more closely based off the ‘70s GT100 and 120s. The MkII can still do all the vintage tones, but really became its own thing. It has more headroom if desired, and can even hold together with bass at any gain level (it’s my new favorite model for bass) unlike vintage units. The MkII sports a new high gain channel capable of some truly unique tones both fuzzed-out and modern. Again, like the Totality, it features two wide-range gain controls and front-end voicing as well as a powerful mid knob that can totally shift the voicing.Both amps (and the Mother) also now come standard with a foot-switchable tube-buffered effects loop.

This one has been a long time coming! In 2024, the Mother preamp pedal made my pedals of the year list and I liked it so much that I ended up buying two of them.

Why? Well, the Mother preamp pedal is a recreation of its dual channel, tube-powered namesake, refined into pedal format. And it is simply one of the best preamp pedals on the market.

The sound, the feel, its ability to take pedals in front of it: Channel A takes distortion pedals like the best of them. And by them, I mean great pedal platform amps.

And channel B is a crunchier channel that can go full, chunky Post Metal distortion all on its own. Throw a boost in front of that for pure high gain bliss!

The output layout is just as great: It has a direct out for poweramps or even interfaces, while the other output is ideal to be plugged into the front of another amp.

On top of all of its amazing features, many of you hit my inbox requesting this very pedal all year, so this just had to happen.

We’re doing a run of only 30 for the time being and the wait list for getting this batch was pretty substantial, so if we ever do another run, it won’t be for a while...

We have immensely enjoyed building the Mother preamp for @scienceamps. What started as a fun side project ("Hey, what if we made 100 of these for fun?") has turned into something way bigger than we could have imagined!

Alex at Science is a joy to work with—a solid friend, a gifted engineer, and a very talented musician to boot. So, I'm glad that his ideas are available in this more accessible format. Though if you're in the market for a real tube amp, his are among the best!
