Stephanie Kloss and Jaro Straub present their artistic explorations based on occult origins, in two adjacent rooms on the first floor of “El Hub” in the historic center of Mexico City. The three-story building with its labyrinthine structure was initially constructed as a luxury apartment building in the 1920s and was then occupied by homeless people in the 1970s.

The video “Exquisite Corpse” by Stephanie Kloss in the gutted room on the right is an exploration of the true story of the “Black Dahlia.” In front of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Millard House in Pasadena, Los Angeles, which is designed like a Mayan tomb, a female dancer interacts with the architecture as if from the beyond.

In the corner room to the left, Jaro Straub displays the photographic work “Open/Close (Faust Cabinet)” which shows a replica of a star-shaped medicine cabinet found in the 19th century in Knittlingen (Germany) birthplace of the alchemist Johann Georg Faust (1480-1540). Jaro Straub, who grew up in the same town, deconstructed a wooden cabinet bearing the initials of his grandfather and rebuilt it as a replica of Faust’s cabinet.
