"'Shook' is a very personal film, but… at a certain point in the process, it kind of stops being about your own story."

Aspiring writer Ashish is navigating a whirlwind of challenges - his parents' recent divorce, an unexpected diagnosis, rejection letters for his debut novel, and a big crush on a barista. SHOOK is a portrait of a twenty-something year old learning to recalibrate his life, and a heartfelt tribute to the city of Scarborough.

Shook is directed by @moviewala, co-written by Adnan Khan, and stars @saamertime, @amy4syth and Bernard White. The film was financed through our Development Program and our Production Program.

Ashish, un jeune écrivain plein d’ambition, traverse une série d’épreuves : le divorce récent de ses parents, un diagnostic inattendu, des refus pour son premier roman, et un coup de cœur pour une barista. Choc dresse le portrait d’un jeune adulte dans la vingtaine qui doit réajuster sa vie. C’est aussi un hommage à la ville de Scarborough.

Réalisé par Amar Wala, coécrit avec Adnan Khan, Shook met en vedette Saamer Usmani, Amy Forsyth et Bernard White. Le film a été soutenu par notre Programme de développement et notre programme d'aide à la production.

Movie Review #21: Shook

Scarborough native @moviewala directs his first dramatic feature film and adds on to the recent amazing Toronto based, independent films that have come out over the last year.
