Askonas Holt is delighted to welcome Mari Samuelsen to the roster for worldwide general management.

Hailed by The Irish Times as “a rebel with applause”, the Norwegian violinist is renowned for her unflinching approach to programming, combining the music of contemporary composers like Max Richter, Caroline Shaw, and Philip Glass with that of Bach and Beethoven. In addition to working regularly with @maxrichtermusic, throughout her career she has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including electronic music artists Jeff Mills and Dubfire, and multimedia artist Philipp Geist. Her videos have reached over 100 million views on YouTube, with her global fanbase bringing new audiences to classical music.

"When making music and putting together programmes, I don't think about what's traditionally perceived to be "correct" or "expected", rather the opposite," she says. "My aim is to create innovative programmes for music lovers - regardless of genre."

Last year saw the release of Mari's third studio album on @dgclassics Inspired by her experience of becoming a mother, LIFE includes music by Richter as well as Olivia Belli, Jóhann Jóhansson, and Nils Frahm, with a track by Hania Rani being selected by Louis Vuitton for their Olympic campaign.

LIFE follows the 2022 release LYS which featured works by thirteen female composers, from Hildegard of Bingen to Caroline Shaw to Beyoncé, all of which were new commissions or arrangements. Her recording of Shaw's Plan & Elevation -The Beech Tree provided the soundscape for Patagonia's 50th anniversary.

Last season saw Mari return to the National Concert Hall in Dublin and the Kilkenny Arts Festival with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra play-directing Richter’s reworking of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons paired with Philip Glass’s Metamorphosis II. Glass was again on the programme when she made her debut with the Lahti Symphony and conductor Dalia Stasevska performing his Violin Concerto No.1. Mari also joined forces with the Sinfonietta Cracovia for works by Arvo Pärt, Max Richter, Hania Rani and Nils Frahm, as well as soundtracks by Jóhann Jóhannsson and Hildur Guðnadóttir.

Mari Samuelsen is a phenomenal violinist who creates a unique musical and stage aura. The artist, famous for her passionate performances of classical and contemporary music, will perform this time in a musical dialogue with Sinfonietta Cracovia. At the heart of the program will be the music of modern masters: Arvo Pärt, Max Richter, but also film music composers such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and even artists beyond the framework of classical music: Hani Rani and Nils Frahm. The visuals for the concert are being created in cooperation with traveler Maciej Malinowski, who is shooting in Iceland especially for the concert.
