A small glimpse into the making of our short film Merki, which I directed & co-wrote, currently nominated for Short Film of the Year and Best Youth Film at the @edduverdlaunin Icelandic Film Academy Awards.
The film was very much improvised, working closely with the actors. We all knew the storyline and the characters, but left room to discover new things and unexpected moments along the way. We collected so much amazing material that I almost have two other films from it. Honoured to be nominated this year and immensely thankful for my collaborators.
Produced by @nordur with support from @icelandicfilmcentre

Merki hlýtur tvær tilnefningar til Eddunnar @edduverdlaunin í flokkunum Stuttmynd ársins og Barna- og unglingaefni ársins. (English below)

Our Collaborator / Director Runar Ingi @runaringi shot ÓMUR JÓLA.
Ómur jóla is a new short film directed by Runar, a portrait capturing a glimpse of life and community during Christmas in the remote northern towns of Ísafjörður, Flateyri, and Þingeyri in Westfjords of Iceland. The film was shot last December over four days. The title is inspired by the Westfjords Christmas psalm Kirkjan ómar öll by composer Sigvaldi Kaldalóns. At its heart, the film is about time — how it passes, how it connects us, and the quiet beauty of the moments we hold on to.
ENJOY !!!

This heartfelt short film offers a glimpse into life and community in the remote towns of Ísafjörður, Flateyri, and Þingeyri. Inspired by the Westfjords Christmas psalm Kirkjan ómar öll, the story explores the passage of time, the connections it creates, and the moments we hold dear. #akkuratfamily

ÓMUR JÓLA
Ómur jóla is a new short film directed by me, a portrait capturing a glimpse of life and community during Christmas in the remote northern towns of Ísafjörður, Flateyri, and Þingeyri in Westfjords of Iceland. The film was shot this December over four days. The title is inspired by the Westfjords Christmas psalm Kirkjan ómar öll by composer Sigvaldi Kaldalóns. At its heart, the film is about time — how it passes, how it connects us, and the quiet beauty of the moments we hold on to. Produced by Norður

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we did this videofor @tovestyrke ‘Borderline’ and @universalmusicsweden in the remote, abandoned Soviet town of Pyramiden in Svalbard. It was an incredible adventure where I made lifelong friends, both during and after the project, and we even picked up a few awards along the way including a @camerimage.festival nomimation. Major thanks to @kristinawibom and @rickard_edholm at @campdavidfilm for making this a reality, @tmardell for being a fearless producer, @jacobmller for his amazing eye and insights, and @nils_andersson for working through what felt like a never-ending 15 hours of footage. Gratitude to @jonas_wessman , @studiomarcushansen , Fredrik Hagström, and Hanna Zätterström, as well as Joanna and Annica our talents and everyone involved. And, of course, to Tove Styrke and her team for being so brave to take on this idea. Magic still happens!
There’s still so much to be said about the powerful backdrop and the themes of this project, which still resonates: the patriarchy, the passage of time, and the impermanence of things—a reminder to make the most of now and to fight against any form of oppression.

Our short film Fár, directed by @gunnurms ,has made its way around the world since premiering at @festivaldecannes last year, where it received ‘Special Mention’ from the jury at the Palme d’Or. It has since been screened at over hundred festivals including TIFF, Les Arcs, Nordisk Panorama (where it co-opened the festival), Stockfish (winner) and more. We are incredibly proud of this film and thrilled to see Fár continue its journey as it is now available to everyone on Disney+. Huge thanks to the amazing cast and crew, our collaborators at Salaud Morisset, and the Icelandic Film Centre.
