At Adawso, Eastern Region, where the tributary of the Volta Lake quietly flows, she sat alone on a pile of concrete blocks.
Young, focused, and composed beyond her years. Dressed in her purple hijab and patterned skirt,one hand resting gently on a red bucket. Her eyes looked steadily toward the other side, as if willing the ferry to arrive sooner.

No complaints. No restlessness. Just quiet patience.

Around her, motorcycles hummed and men loaded bricks and sacks for the crossing to Nkawkaw. But in that moment, she carried her own small world — a bucket, a black plastic bag, and the hope of making it across on time.

This is the everyday strength of Ghana’s young girls.
They wait with dignity, they carry what they must and they keep their eyes on the other side.

Sometimes the biggest journeys begin with simply sitting still, waiting for the next boat.
