I always keep a sketchbook and pen on my bedside table.

It helps me process the day and empty out any lurking ideas ‘up there’.

Super sketchy without overthinking.

I’ve been thinking about childhood nostalgia and what ‘creative play’ looked like for me when I was a child.

The first thing that came to mind was a wooden ‘grocery shop’ that my Grandpa made for me.

I gathered random things to sell in my shop - from fruit and vegetables to toys, books and all sorts of stuff.

I loved ‘imagining’ being a shop owner, meeting interesting customers (cuddly bears and dolls) and having fun chats.

I’m going to keep going on the ‘childhood nostalgia’ theme. It’s wonderful ‘down time’ and makes my creative heart sing softly before bed.

Work in progress on our bike shed mural on the playing field at Southmoor Primary School (last year).

In between sessions with the students, I take a step back, create new outlines and fix a few things.

While we have an initial sketch to work with, there’s inevitably improvisation on the job as we chat and come up with new ideas.

This was such a beauty to work on - collaborating with the students is always so much fun.

And the kids ABSOLUTELY LOVE exploring and experimenting with a fabulous range of POSCA acrylic paint markers.

Kids making their creative mark on their schools is wonderful for confidence, imagination, creative thinking, collaboration, sense of pride and ownership. They become part of a story of transformation.

This peculiar pigeon is always fishing for chips. And compliments!

He’s leaning into his reputation of stealing food, but trying to be a bit smarter about it.

Being a plain, old common pigeon isn’t helping him move up in the world, so he’s made himself a fabulous helmet to stand out from the crowd.

All the other ‘beautiful’ birds get all the attention - always photographed and drawn like they’re celebrities. Why not him?!

I’ve been given doctors orders to rest.

But I find it SO hard!!!

Before my daughter left for school this morning she said something super helpful.

“By the time I get home from school I want you to draw me something.” Insert pause while she thinks.

“Draw a ladybird cutting a birds feathers. I want them sitting on a cloud. That’s all. See you later!”

Well, I’ve never drawn that before but the challenge was set!

And here it is. I left the sign blank and set her the challenge of popping something on it!

I wonder what she’ll come up with.
