"Grimper dans les arbres", aquatinte, 11 x 14 cm, 2026.
It is rare for me to draw from things seen in real life. But this scene immediately felt self-evident. Several children were climbing an oak tree in the park together. The tree offered itself as a playground, spreading out its branches, impassive. They reminded me that I used to do the same when I was younger, and what an adventure it was. Since then, I look at the tree each time I walk along the same path. It is so pleasant to see its crown opening out like a sphere, especially since it sometimes shelters me during heavy rain.

Out now! Roxane Métayer & Charles Dubois - Taillis [CODEX003] 🤎𝑳𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒊𝒏 𝒃𝒊𝒐
Roxane Métayer and Charles Dubois explore a sonic ecosystem built from rudimentary percussion, prepared drums and violin, combining acoustic sound, raw materials and abstract or organic textures within a restrained field that touches on folk music, minimalism and free improvisation.
The duo plays with the inversion of instrumental roles, creating a shifting dialogue where melody, pulse and texture exchange places, the violin turning percussive or droning while bells, drums and resonant objects carry fragments of melody, small rhythms and resonances passing between wood, metal and strings as the instruments echo, follow and interrupt each other.
Song-like structures, abstract passages and open improvisation appear side by side, violin lines stretching into unstable tempos while tuned wood, bells and voices echo or shadow them, rhythms gradually forming through repetition and friction and settling into loose cycles that drift between pulse and suspension.
The music unfolds through small gestures and quiet transformations, where melodic fragments, loose pulses and resonant textures appear and disappear, leaving behind a sparse landscape of sound shaped by proximity, listening and response.
This recording documents a meeting between the two musicians at «La Galerie Sonore in Angers», invited by the concert series «Up Up and Away». Recorded by Étienne Foyer in February 2025.

I’m currently building a quadriphonic sound system made from sequoia wood. After spending two months in an artistic residency in Kamiyama, I began learning how to build one using cedar wood. That first sound system stayed in Japan.
Enthusiastic about the acoustic results of this first project, I decided to build a new one for travelling and performing in Europe. Here are the beginnings of this work. What I brought back from Japan is the way of carving the wood, the tools, the gouges, even though I also sculpt with Swiss and German gouges.
I also experimented with a method inspired by the Japanese technique of shou sugi ban for the interior of the speakers. This approach allowed me to hollow out the interior more quickly. It helps protect the wood from insects, fungi, and moisture, while enhancing its durability and natural resistance to decay
The next step will be to set the Fostex speakers in place, mounting them on boards and sealing them inside the carved wooden cones.
