Dramamine, the session that changed everything.

I took over @rosa_mortem full time in Jan of 2023. Dani & I had a Dec session where we invited our friends to do a cover song, mostly for fun. We set mood lighting & worked out all the parts, a room full of people who hadn’t quite played together before. We had a lot of people respond asking to be part of the next one. With the studio being not well established yet, we thought this would be the best way to get people in the door with more eyes on the place. Boy howdy it worked because I haven’t stopped working since.

This session was absolutely incredible. I added projections on the wall of flower fields & snowy scapes along with mood lighting. It was such a vibe. We kept the drums exactly the same, a tribute to Jeremiah Green who had just passed. I wanted everything else to be ambient & cinematic. This song structure allowed for many people to hop on, the idea was to leap frog & highlight different artists throughout. I had everyone who wanted to play on it lay down their parts & then weaved all of the of it together intricately with intention. Nick midi’d out all the parts & I kept those in the foundation. They sound like video game tracks, you hear them occasionally. My favorite part of this song, aside from all of it, is the vocals. We had about 10-12 people, 2 on headphones & maybe 1 sheet of lyrics in the dark. Not once was a verse tracked without messing up & laughing; I kept it like that. It makes me cry in the best way, I feel like it captures this place the best.

We tracked this Jan 22, 2023 & Nick & I uploaded it Jan 21, 2025. The only things keeping me from releasing this sooner was that it was missing a main vocal & that I never think anything is ever ready. I’ve learned nothing really ever is, you just have to accept things where they are & do so with grace, love & understanding. I’ve grown so much since this session, I’m very proud of that. This has been both the most challenging & rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. All I can say is thank you for being here. This studio changed my life & I love it with every fiber of my being.

Had a great remote vocal comping session earlier this week with @lowe_brenden and Arielle Dorn. And damn, she can sing 😱

BIG shout out to @audiomovers for making the session possible 🙏🏼

Arielle was listening in from Oregon while Brenden and I were making edits in Sacramento CA, thanks to an absolutely brilliant piece of software called Listento 🤓

Swipe to see Arielle’s cat’s preferred listening position 🤗

@problemplays dropped a new single! Demon Future was co-engineered/produced by me and the legendary @stylesmunson at my studio @rosa_mortem sometime last fall.

Recording the ep with these sweethearts was a blast! I had many favorite moments over this entire process. From heated Kings moments, gang vocals with my interns, Eli’s expensive guitar most of us were too afraid to touch, endless bits, I couldn’t recommend making a record with your friends enough. I think putting the @marshallamps Super Lead in Studio A and cranking it for additional guitars was definitely a highlight. At one point I had DoorDash’d something and while we were the only ones in the building (sorry for the millionth time) the front door was locked. I realized when I went to retrieve my prized snacks that you could hear what we were recording clearly in the parking lot. The guy wide-eyed said “what is this place” and as I snatched my food I quickly said “the coolest place you’ve ever delivered food to, thank you so much.” And then I immediately shut and locked the door. I’d like to think that this is the coolest place DoorDash frequents but also generally speaking.

These shots were from drum day by the brilliant @0naveryisland 🙏🏼 Drums to this day are always my favorite since I understand their language better than most instruments. Sadly, Styles had “real job” responsibilities so I was left unsupervised. We recorded the rest of this EP over the course of a couple weeks here at Rosa Mortem and everything was mixed/mastered/additional production sauce by Styles at @secretcompoundsac

Again, I couldn’t recommend making a record with your friends enough. The world is a nightmare currently but keep taking care of each other and keep making your world and community a beautiful place as much as you’re able to. Make art. Make cool records with your friends. Come see the new studio, we put in some serious work changing it up and I’m in love with it again as always. Rosa Mortem, I’ll never stop loving you (biiiiiiiitch)! Also, if you bring me roses to your sessions, I give you discounts on studio time. So do that. Take care, thanks for being here.

Late night post-production re-amping with @as_seen_on_the_internet in Studio A.

Ash started re-amping early 2022 for the latest @momentinjapanese EP She Nods that came out earlier this year in April. Ash re-amped all of the guitars, lots of the vocal tracks to create harmonies and added layers while also adding in some atmospheric textures to complete the EP. Since diving into re-amping, she has spent countless hours experimenting all over the film studio and has integrated it into many of the projects she works on. If you’re looking for a ~vibe~ she’s definitely one to talk to.

This Friday, Shunkan drops a music video for their track ‘Curse’. This track can be found on the She Nods EP out now on all platforms.
