Some more memories with Joep van Lieshout!

These pictures were taken at the opening of Atelier van Lieshout’s current exhibition Nikè at Galerie Ron Mandos, where we were also joined by our dear friends Shirley den Hartog and Iebele van der Meulen. Thank you for another wonderful collaboration, Joep!

With ‘Nikè’ now in its final week on view at Galerie Ron Mandos, make sure to come and visit the exhibition if you haven't already!

Art in Focus: Mounir Eddib on 'Family' and 'Rachid' 📹️

In this interview, Mounir Eddib discusses the paintings Rachid (2025) and Family (2026). Both works emerge from memories of growing up in Genk, Belgium, and reflect on everyday life within migrant and working-class communities. Through both works, Eddib reflects on kinship, belonging, and the emotional weight carried by ordinary scenes.

Atelier Van Lieshout: Work Highlight ⬜️

As part of the exhibition ‘Nikè’, Galerie Ron Mandos highlights ‘Composition I’ by Atelier Van Lieshout.

These works, or “compositions” as Joep van Lieshout describes them, are built through arrangement rather than narrative. Different forms and objects are combined until a certain balance appears. Meaning develops through proportion, tension, and the relationship between elements, while the works remain open to interpretation.

During the final week of the exhibition, Atelier Van Lieshout will also be present at the gallery for a special book signing. On Friday from 4:00–5:00 PM, Joep van Lieshout will sign copies of ‘Bad Ideas for Good Living’, published by Maas Lawrence with texts by Edo Dijksterhuis. Visitors can also enter a raffle to win a unique one-of-a-kind drawing by Atelier Van Lieshout.

Atelier Van Lieshout: Work Highlight ⬜️

In light of the exhibition Nikè, Galerie Ron Mandos highlights work by Atelier van Lieshout.

These works, or compositions as Van Lieshout calls them, are built through arrangement rather than narrative. Objects are placed, adjusted, and combined until a balance emerges. There is no story to follow. Meaning develops through proportion, and spatial relationships. The compositions remain open, resisting fixed interpretation.

Some more memories with Joep van Lieshout!

Looking back at different moments, exhibitions, dinners, travels, and installations together over the years. It’s special how certain collaborations continue to grow naturally over time... :)

With ‘Nikè’ now in its final week on view at Galerie Ron Mandos, it felt like a good moment to share a few more images from along the road.

Atelier Van Lieshout: Work Highlight ⬜️

As part of the exhibition ‘Nikè’, Galerie Ron Mandos highlights ‘Composition III’ by Atelier Van Lieshout.

The work brings together different sculptural forms into one composition, balancing between abstraction and recognizable objects. Rather than telling a direct story, the piece is built through placement, rhythm, and material. Joep van Lieshout often refers to these works as “compositions” because they are assembled like spatial constructions, where meaning develops through the relationship between the different elements.

Working with plaster in a raw and direct way, the surface keeps traces of the hand and the process of making visible. The work feels both constructed and unfinished at the same time, which is central to much of Atelier Van Lieshout’s practice.

With Atelier Van Lieshout’s current exhibition at Galerie Ron Mandos entering its final week on view, I wanted to share a few memories together with Joep van Lieshout.

Over the years, we’ve worked on many projects together and built a friendship along the way. It has been special to follow Joep’s practice for so long and to keep sharing conversations, ideas, exhibitions, and moments together.

Grateful for the many collaborations over the years... and looking forward to many more!

Art in Focus: Joep van Lieshout on Pride Helmet 📹️

This video focusses on Atelier van Lieshout’s Pride Helmet (2025), featured in the current exhibition Nikè. The work combines the shape of a protective helmet with figures gathered in demonstration, bringing together ideas of protest, identity, protection, and collective action.

In the video, Joep van Lieshout explains how the helmet both shields and isolates the wearer, while the demonstrators across its surface reflect a tension between individuality and belonging. The work also connects to recurring themes throughout the exhibition: systems, conflict, survival, and civil disobedience.

Exhibition Highlight: Methamorphoses at Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam🪽

Passion, desire, lust, jealousy, cunning and deceit. The Rijksmuseum took me on a journey into one of the greatest and most important sources of inspiration for artists: The Metamorphoses by the poet Ovid.

An amazing exhibition featuring some of the most beautiful works of art in the world. The exhibition is still on until May 25th, I highly recommend visiting this show to all! Included in the images are some of my personal highlight from my visit.

—
Artworks featured:
1. Hubert Gerhard, Perseus with the Head of Medusa, ca. 1585-1590
2. Entrance to the exhibition
3. Video installation by Juul Kraijer

Atelier Van Lieshout: Work Highlight

In light of the new exhibition Nikè, Galerie Ron Mandos highlights work by Atelier van Lieshout.

A figure stands within a rigid frame, calm, contained, and seemingly at ease. Yet it remains bound. Referencing the traditional “ball and chain,” Van Lieshout inverts the logic: the weight is no longer attached to the body, but to the head. Constraint shifts from physical restriction to something internal, identity, thought, and self-definition.

The frame represents systems of order and rationality, while the chain suggests control. Together, they point to a condition where limitation is no longer imposed from the outside, but absorbed and maintained from within.
