Morning Practice is back 🦜🦜🦜

Every Wednesday, 9–10 AM. Movement Space, BC Building. Open to all students and staff.

No one leading. No one talking. There is a playlist and the space is there for you to attend to your body however you need too: stretch, dance, lie on the floor, rest, recharge, and etc.

The invitation is to accompany and be in company with whatever you’re doing.

No shoes on the floor. Bring socks, mats, blankets, layers if you like.

Morning practice runs weekly during term time only.

As we tend to the un/learnings of Semester 1, Monstrous Futurities has mostly turned inwards, towards each other through inter/dependent study, moving through a practice of (un)learning language, bodies, and territories.

To (un)learn is to forget and to (re)member. To loosen the vocabularies and codes that shape what we know, how we come to know, and how we act from that knowing. To (re)imagine and (re)write ways of (un) learning, together.

There have been many un/learnings along the way and from those, we share a few traces of the first semester’s embodied re/memberings, re/compositions, dis/identifications and trans/formations.

Frames 3 and 4 offer a glimpse into some of our workshops, intensives, and collective sharings. You will see the first edition of Monstrous Press, initiated by the students, and a collective jam performed by the cohort as a sort of “carrier bag” , part of the Semester 1 assessment.

Next: we begin Semester 2 with (un)making. More from us soon!! For now,we say a deep belly thank you to all the MF students, core tutors, visiting guests, and MF team. Thank you to all of you, for holding MF with so much tenderness as we began this journey.

This workshop draws on Romany’s work– Constellations of Together-mess, rehearsing ways of being together across soma-erotic touching/s, telepathic proximities, queer intimacy and temporary support structures. For Romany, dance is a practice of thinking in action, a continuous responsiveness to what it means to be a body in relation to others, an ongoing practice of keeping company and of constant change.⁠
⁠
👉 The workshop will run from 11am–4.30pm (with breaks) and an informal social from 4.30pm–5.30pm.⁠ Then, from 5.30pm-6.30pm, Romany will invite you into a conversational and collective reading of her practice. Spilling some words around the themes:⁠

About a month ago now, or a whole moon cycle ago, in the depths of Gemini season, I was in residency in Scotland @cove_park.

I was attending to different bodies of my research through a process-led, month-long, collaborative residency. Curiousally and critically enquiring, developing and playing with “practices of together-mess” and my lifelong obsession with trios or configurations of threes - both as metaphor and as methodology. We created practices, proposals & scores for connecting, grounding and charging - rooted in intimacy, overflow/s and reciprocity.

Cruising, conversing & deep sea diving into somatic-erotic touching/s, performative movement practices, body-object-land dwellings and experimental text/ word based spilling/s.

This was both a-continuation-of and a-letting-go-of some of things que todavia me hace vibrar desde “Especies de Compania”, hecho en relación de las lógicas de la tres hermanas y estructuras de apoyo (parte de la @maeteart, 2021)

Full of gratitude for the beautiful humans who supported me to arrive here & who accompanied me during my time at Cove & who continue to dream with me about the future possibilities or containers for these bodies of work.

About a month ago now, or a whole moon cycle ago, in the depths of Gemini season, I was in residency in Scotland @cove_park.

I was attending to different bodies of my research through a process-led, month-long, collaborative residency. Curiousally and critically enquiring, developing and playing with “practices of together-mess” and my lifelong obsession with trios or configurations of threes - both as metaphor and as methodology. We created practices, proposals & scores for connecting, grounding and charging - rooted in intimacy, overflow/s and reciprocity.

Cruising, conversing & deep sea diving into somatic-erotic touching/s, performative movement practices, body-object-land dwellings and experimental text/ word based spilling/s.

This was both a-continuation-of and a-letting-go-of some of things que todavia me hace vibrar desde “Especies de Compania”, hecho en relación de las lógicas de la tres hermanas y estructuras de apoyo (parte de la @maeteart, 2021)
