It's 2025 and I NEEDED to beef up my art socials. I want people to be able to get an idea about what I'm about from my insta, so here's the basics! I'm robi and I create queer art for queer joy. I believe that anything can be art especially if it brought you joy to make.

Just donated $36 from 🍉sales to @thamra_org, a Palestinian organization that fosters food sovereignty in Gaza through sustainable agriculture and community. If you're interested in supporting, check out Thamra (.) org. You can also buy from my #FREEPALESTINE jewelry collection, the proceeds from which I donate to Palestinians and those supporting them in Gaza.

I love sharing my art & my joy with you all, and I hope to keep doing so even more this year :)

I also hate how much AI content is unlabeled. If you use AI, say it proud with your whole chest, because people deserve to know what they're consuming and where it came from. If you're embarrassed or ashamed of using AI ....... you could stop :)

If I ever share AI "art," please know it was a mistake and I want to know! I don't want to support that, but with so much content going unlabelled, sometimes it's hard to tell what's real and what a computer spit out.

I hope to continue to use my account to share art and joy in its many forms, because that is where I feel our humanity is.

This is my first attempt at a repeating pattern. I don’t love how it tiles (too square-ish), and I had a lot of trouble with the really minute details (there’s still some little lines where the tiling didn’t work perfectly), but I’ll call this a successful first attempt. It’s really hard for me to feel good about the progress and learning curve when I don’t like the final result, but I’m trying my best to accept what I create and I can put future hopes and aspirations into the next project.

I’ve been really interested in experimenting with shapes that are confined in unique ways (e.g., the boundaries between these flowers), as well as how to reduce a flower, which is a really complex piece of nature, into a flat, simple, but recognizable shape. I was heavily inspired by a lot of art on Pinterest in the same style (simple and confined by the other flowers).

𝗥𝗘𝗗 Artist: Rowan Champaco Larkin @robiwanders, robiwanders.carrd.co
Rowan Champaco Larkin, known as robi/wan, is a Filipino Chamorro American multidisciplinary artist whose art is based on their experience as a queer, genderfluid, brown, Asian, mixed-race, neurodivergent person of color. Robi works across mediums of painting, digital art, collage, jewelry, music, fiber arts, and fashion to create a uniquely vibrant world of colorful art. Originally from Maine, Robi is happy to call Rochester home for the past 3 years, and for the foreseeable future. Robi’s diasporic identity as an off-island islander is central to their art in many ways, with all of the nuances, confusion, pain, grief, and joy that comes with growing up missing a homeland you’ve never seen.

Shown is a detail of "minor feelings" which was inspired by a song of the same name by queer Japanese-British musician, Rina Sawayama, centered around "the grief that comes from being unsure about your place in the world" (in robi/wan's words). To find out more about the artist, their relationship to this song and its album, come to Altbar this May!

This work is part of 𝗥𝗘𝗗, an Asian American and Pacific Islander Artist Exhibition. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 at 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗕𝗮𝗿 @altbarroc from 5PM–8PM! Doors open until 10! Enjoy some springtime non-alcoholic beverages at the local hangout while we show Rochester what an Asian-American Artist is.

Also catch robi/wan at our little 🅿︎🅾︎🅿︎-🆄︎🅿︎ 🅼︎🅰︎🆁︎🅺︎🅴︎🆃︎ on the 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗬 OF MAY, 5/29 6-8PM for prints and zines!

Come out and support us! You might see something unexpected from the AAPI artist community!

Doodled this last night after cancelling AGAIN on doing community/mutual aid work because I was too burnt out from work which is truly driving me to a breaking point every day. I think about the second image, a chart based on levels of ability to deal with stress, a lot. I’ve been somewhere between “surviving” and “struggling” for a long time now and I’m so sick of it. I don’t want to just get by, I want to thrive. I want to feel free and feel unbound by capitalism and the fuckin rat race.

How are you surviving lately?

(Here I would note that my feelings of struggling/survival in terms of stress management obviously come with a lot of privilege… my struggle is a lack of energy and capacity to do what I want freely, including working to help other people and doing things that bring me joy; it is not survival in the sense of struggling to meet basic needs or being in one of the many war zones that currently exist in the world. But ALL of us on this b*tch of an earth deserve to thrive, not just keep running and running through capitalist hell following a dream that very well might never come true - a dream of rest, freedom, stability, joy, and peace.)

No AI etc etc

Something something art therapy

I am not immune to propaganda … In fact I have to actively fight it and I don’t always win. But it’s so fucked up that that weakness is constantly exploited by corporations who WANT me to give in to tiredness, hopelessness, a sense of identity crisis, a feeling of not belonging, who want to sell me the promise of beauty and ease and acceptance.

Fuck capitalism and fuck Instagram ads in particular! I just wanna look at cool art >:(

(All ads in the first collage came from my social media feed or my email. I don’t use AI and I never will! - That’s one propaganda I’m not gonna buy into lol)

THAW(IV):ABOLISHICE

Gallery opens this Saturday March 14th from 6-9pm @attheyards

A note from @matt_vanderlee, gallery organizer
"I started THAW because I felt strongly that there needed to be a space for artists in this town to do a little less cheerleading and a lot more critical engagement of the systems and powers that be.I wanted it to be a space for the many artists who do not feel a part of it and are trying to find their place in it. That mission felt more prescient than ever this year. I’m very grateful to The Yards for being one of the only galleries in town that has the independence and the balls to host it.THAW has never been this raw before and I’m excited for you all to see what the artists made of it.

@erica_likes_alligators and I are asking that folks bring non-perishable goods to the exhibition as a part of her installation, specifically rice and beans. These goods will go to refugees in our community impacted directly by ICE’s bulllshit. We have chosen not to share the details of who and where bc we do not want to put a target on anyone.

@alliepush has made hand printed postcards that anyone can use to write their congressperson and we are encouraging you all to do that in the space

Many of the artists have elected to donate a portion or all of the profits from sales of their work to non-profits that are doing the work.

Come through this Saturday to be a part of this important statement from our local community of artists."

Another Filipino textile recreation. This one is from the book “Rara: Art and Tradition of Mat Weaving in the Philippines.” I don’t actually have the book, so I’m not sure what region, tribe, or people to attribute this to. Nevertheless, I love the bright colors and the artistry of this simple and also complex woven pattern. Of course, the effort that goes into digitally drawing a recreation of the mat uses completely different skills from mat weaving, but they are both labors of love, methodical, creative, and time consuming. This one took me 9 hours. Gonna keep doing more.
