Pebble for Palestine 🍉 please read 👇
My daughter recently painted this pebble on a sunny day at our favourite beach hut by the sea, but this post isn’t about that. It doesn’t feel right to continue to share photos of joy and laughter with my ‘amusing’ puns, when there is a genocide and apartheid going on right in front of our very eyes - quite literally - it’s all over the phone you are using to view this very post.
I don’t know whether it was seeing yet another image of a dead baby or an emaciated mother, the murder of the Al-Jazeera journalists, the arrests of hundreds of peaceful protesters in London for holding a sign, or Israel’s plan to build 3,400 properties in the West Bank on land that Palestinians have been forcibly removed from (and that’s just this week!!!); that made me finally write this post I’ve wanted to do for so long.
What is happening in Gaza and to the Palestinian people is so utterly horrifying, so completely heartbreaking and so absolutely wrong on every level of my being, that I simply can no longer stay silent, as to do so is to be complicit. We all must do more.
Whilst I’ve shared images and reels, commented on posts, donated money; I haven’t fully communicated the feelings that have been boiling up inside me since this devastating destruction began. I’m aware this didn’t start on October 7th and of course, all hostages should be freed. However, that is not what I’m here to write about; the history is long and complex, and others communicate it with more clarity and greater knowledge than me, but I understand enough to share these thoughts. What is absolutely certain, is there is never any justification for killing innocent people, whatever has gone before.
I’m also so ashamed (but not surprised) by the UK government’s actions and words ( @uklabour @keirstarmer @david.lammy ) in this so-called war (it is NOT a war!). And much of the Western media’s bias and rhetoric; not just the right wing press who I expected it from, but those I once respected like the @bbcnews @bbc - truly shameful reporting.

*PLEASE READ & SHARE* House of Bert is looking for an artist/illustrator to support a new branding project. 🙂
The illustration style required takes the form of elegant, fluid, linear drawings of the human body in various poses, created using a brush and ink technique (see early sketches in photo). The artworks will be used on packaging and promotional materials. This is a paid commission; with the project taking place during May and June 2026. 🖌️
If you are interested and think you can help or know someone who could, please share and comment. Then send a short portfolio of drawings to robbie@houseofbert.co.uk by Friday 24 April 2026

Suffolk is the place @houseofbert_ calls home.
It is also the county of the port of Felixstowe, where shipping containers from across the world - including those of the Evergreen Marine Corporation - are stacked in enormous numbers.
Rising like a forest of luscious evergreens, the trees traditionally used as the centrepiece of our seasonal decorations.
This screen print (and reel) is inspired by these monolithic containers and mighty firs. To wish you all an evergreen Christmas.
Bert x
Thank you to 🙏
@colchmkrspc for the printing facilities
@favinipapers for the beautiful paper
And of course @willyoungofficial for the epic #Evergreen
If you’ve received yours in the post drop a 🎄 in the comments👇 and if you’d like one, I have a few left, drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do 💚

This isn’t simply type, this is the designing, curation and screen printing of an exhibition.
Today, Billy (@bf.associates @uos_alumni) and Robbie (@robbiesteer) from @the_localtypewere in the Print room, with @uosgraphicdesign students @uniofsuffolk facilitating the printing of the work for the upcoming exhibition. Thanks for coming in, it was a blast!
The exhibition is coming… which will celebrate Ipswich, through the presence of typographic forms that hold cultural and historical value. Keep an eye out for future ‘exhibition’ posts.
The project is generously sponsored by @gfsmithpapers, who supplied beautiful papers, perfect for screen printing. The work looks great screen printed onto these beautiful papers.
Thanks also to @suffolkarchives, who gave access to the archive, which expanded research skills into the depth of their collections. We are lucky to have The Hold, home to The Suffolk Archives, as part of the campus of @uniofsuffolk

In the run up to our Collective Power talk in January, we’re delighted to introduce our first speakers at the event.
Robbie Steer and Billy Fenton aka @the_localtype.
As graphic designers, Robbie Steer and Billy Fenton have always held a mutual love of letters and print; which led to them setting up The Local Type in 2024. Together they scour villages, towns and cities to collect historic, often overlooked typography and curate their findings into an A to Z, forming an eclectic set of characters; much like the places they visit.
Their photographs are digitised to create an artwork that they screen print by hand in the locality – no two are ever the same. Each alphabet also presents a social history of the local area through type – with a list of the letters’ locations to be found on the reverse of each print. Recent type hunts have led to some unexpected discoveries. You can follow their growing collection of found type and the stories behind them @The_LocalType.

Collective Power: Exploring the art and allure of collecting
With David Pearson, Hugh Miller, Indiana Lawrence, Liz Mosley and The Local Type
Date: Thursday 15 January 2026
Location: St Bride Foundation and Online via Zoom
Time: 7–9.15pm
Tickets: Link in bio! (Please note that we only have online tickets left available for the event.)

This evening explores how collections shape our ways of seeing, making, and understanding the world. Each speaker will share their own unique approach to collecting and what these personal archives reveal about design, culture, and creativity.
Across short 15-minute talks, our speakers will uncover what drives their collecting habits. Expect insights into how collections evolve, what they teach us, and the unexpected connections that emerge between objects, people, and stories.
Whether you’re a designer, collector, or simply someone fascinated by what others notice and keep, Collective Power invites you to reflect on the things – and ideas – that we hold onto, and why.
