A shared love of cake became the starting point, and the inspiration for how guests would be welcomed into cocktail hour.

The couple needed a seating chart. They loved cake. So we set out to create something multipurpose, beautiful and functional in equal measure. 180 custom miniature cakes, each marked with a guest’s name and table number. A draped backdrop, soft and architectural. An attendant on hand, guiding every arrival to their own small piece of the night.

For Tracey’s 60th, we transformed the Fairmont Royal York into a world of red-and-white striped tents and checkered floors, chandeliers casting light over a dance floor built for the occasion. Tarot, ring toss, slapshot, aerialists overhead. Pizza from the Fire Ring, smoked plates from the Ringmaster’s, a three-tier cake crowned with Tracey herself.

We brought the spectacle of a carnival to life inside one of the city’s most storied ballrooms, a milestone designed at the scale of the woman it celebrated.

Jack wanted Julia completely caught off guard, so he enlisted Samantha to help pull it off. Julia thought she was heading to The Drake for a standard site visit, completely unaware Jack was waiting upstairs.

After an hour touring the space, Emily from The Drake led Julia and Sam to the rooftop suite where the surprise finally unfolded. Deep reds, candlelight, anthuriums, roses, and chili peppers tucked into the florals, and Julia had absolutely no idea what was waiting for her.

Getting to witness and capture this one from behind the scenes felt really special.
