Le Court is a space to explore the connection between sport and art, and in our new artist series titled “5V5”, we’re asking the creative voices shaping basketball 5 questions and pairing each answer with work that reflects their perspective.

Our first guest is @reginaldthomas, a talented team photographer for the @spurs. He lets us in on his creative process, and how family photos and photo journalism influenced his journey.

a crossover can be areminder of whose you are and shooting 3/5 kinda piss me off more than it should.

a inconsequential frame in the first quarter last night made me happy and thankful for the basketballjourney Shorty is writing for me.

to be from a city where basketball is at the center fr.

from my backyard, to Bocek, to Druid Hill, The Dome, Cloverdale, Chinquapin, Northwood and all the double rims that taught us physics and finesse.

to the old heads that told us that we would go to the league and helped us dream

to domed surfaces with tire marks instead of court lines , to learning not to shoot into the evenin sun.

to Deja who made 18 foot jumpers outside with a whole ankle monitor on, to the tattered nets that reveal its life well lived.

to @muvawhye who came to all my games, and got me my first pair of adult sized sneakers, and my first camera

to my father who taught me how to play and to develop other interests. who took two poles, two cinder blocks, some barrier fencing and zip ties to make the green monster.

to my camp counselor @mccoughtry
who the world knows as a basketball hall of famer. to my brother @rudygay

to @coachbrilg and @jerm21attack who affirmed my interests at a crucial age, who’d bring my cameras to me sometimes, who’d hold my things, who’d let me figure out how to see and do and try the thing.

to @lisa__snowden who told me i need to do something, and to @coachsambrand who let me do it. to @ctc_seandon7 who let me do it, to the people in random parks and gyms who let me do it. to TJwho let me do it.

to all the memories and people from a rich and specific experience with the game

thank you Shorty
