Vestjyllands højskole, Denmark
At the 1st of june I started as gardener and project manager of ‘A Regenerative Experimentarium’ a project initiated by @vestjyllandshojskole and supported by funds from the Nordea Foundation. Here I get to combine my recent experiences in agriculture in Italy with my background from project management in Copenhagen, working experimentally and scientifically with soil improvement: composing different kinds of compost, experimenting with plant symbioses and fungal mycorrhizae, observing bio-indicator plants and counting earthworms, while analysing soil samples and understanding the ecosystems and improving biodiversity both below and above the soil surface. I am working with local people and stakeholders, creating collaborations, meetings, seminars and events to share our experiments and experiences and creating a space for dialogue about the current and future conditions of farming.

It is an enormous privilege to have the time and resources to experiment, try out ideas and sometimes fail without having to be too concerned about the (economical) consequences.

And it feels like an even bigger privilege to work in a context like Vestjyllands Højskole, being surrounded by passionate people, cool cats and slug-eating ducks sharing both work and other wonderful experiences with colleagues, students and volunteers and having found a creative community in the middle of the monotonous moor of the the westernmost part of Denmark.

Siamo tre contadini e vogliamo solo cucinare insieme.

🍷5 vini provenienti dai nostri territori @cascina_barban @la_rapa_bendata @emilioomede
🥬6 portate a base vegetale dai nostri orti
📆15 Dicembre 2024 h 12.45
📍Circolo Arci Berthoud - Via Berthoud 112, Serravalle Scrivia (AL) - Piemonte

🍷5 vini provenienti dai nostri territori @cascina_barban @la_rapa_bendata @emilioomede
🥬6 portate a base vegetale dai nostri orti

Siamo tre contadini e vogliamo solo cucinare insieme.

SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2022
@_cresco_ Val Varaita, Piemonte
A community of committed people, a network of farmers and entrepreneurs, teachers and restaurateurs, architects and bread-, cheese- and wine-producers all working towards a shared sustainable life in this Occitan alpine valley in the westernmost part of Piedmont. Though my initial idea was to plant, grow and harvest with the CSA Cresco I quickly found that in Val Varaita you work together within and across this vast network, helping each other when needed and when possible. I took part in my first transhumance, sowed a field of rye and went to meetings about the future of the valley while getting more and more convinced that my own future lies in regenerative agriculture and living in close contact with nature. Here I quit my job in Copenhagen, acknowledging that these six months weren’t just a break from reality, but the beginning of my new reality. Here I felt at home from day one thanks to the overwhelming beauty of the mountains and this beautiful community of people: Pietro, Fiore, Michi, Lelle, Marco, Giulia, Samu, Barbara, Flavio, Giuliana, Fabio, Elia, Angelica, Agnese, Paolo, Dave, Marina, Gian Leo, Gianot and many others

JULY / AUGUST 2022
@cascina_barban - Val Borbera, Piemonte
Where cultivating communities and new cultural traditions are as important as growing local vines and producing natural wines, respecting nature and people. In just two months the two Barban-families became friends and friends became family. Here I found the joy of not just drinking wine, but making it. I shared meals and aperitivi and hikes, long days in the vineyards and lazy days at the river and reconstructed a ruin in the mountains. Here I lived in my own house in the village of Figino, surrounded by neighbours and wild boars, enjoying a life as a social hermit and realising that I might not be the city-person I always thought I was. I will always feel welcome in these unwelcoming surroundings of the most beautiful and brutal part of the Piedmontese Apennines, thanks to Martina, Mary, Pietro, Maurizio, Liviana, Nadia, Laura, Filippo, Elisabeth, Gigi, Monica, Marco, Diego, Pino, Lorenzo, Karoleen and many others

MAY / JUNE 2022
@duipuvruncostigliole - Costigliole d’Asti, Piemonte
A life, a work and a lifework, in the form of a small regenerative vegetable farm wedged in between the endless vineyards and hazelnut fields of Asti. Where plants are political and the regenerative work of protecting or restoring fragile ecosystems isn’t limited to the fields but are applied to social, economic, rural and urban realities. During these two months I felt the immense joy of days filled with soil, seeds, sun, sweat and shovelling mixed with the immense sorrow and frustration of seeing months of work go to waste due of the lack of water and the evermore extreme weather conditions. Here I felt rooted and uprooted, at home and very far from home, but always surrounded by the best of people (and cats 💔) - thanks to Stefano, Andrea, Emilio, Giorgia, Melissa, Tina, Silvano, Marta, Mauro, Piras, Chiara, Giulia, and many others

A life, a work and a lifework, in the form of a small regenerative vegetable farm wedged in between the endless vineyards and hazelnut fields of Asti. JULY 2021
@grossergarten - Gerswalde, Brandenburg.
A place and a project, always filled with new ideas, new people and neverending rebuilding projects. Here the cultivation of vegetables and the creation of books, movies, tv-shows and events are equally important. Here ideas sprout as quickly as weeds. This is where my first vague thoughts of change started. This is where everything started to feel possible, thanksto the long talks with Lola, Marie, Philipp, Siobhán, Jess, and many others.
