Bionickle 05 : Annihilation by Insomnior

This album is a reel of memories forged in sound, gathering every moment this year when we achieved meaningful breakthroughs within ourselves. It stands as both a summation and an offering—our tribute to the year’s deep technical explorations.

We situate our sound between the collective memory of ancient tribal ritual and the chill of futurist electronics, inviting ritual pulses and the digital grain of synthesizers into a sustained, profound dialogue.

At the core of this work is not the pursuit of a predetermined, perfect terminus, but an embrace of the philosophy that the process is the purpose—letting the process be our lighthouse, rather than the far shore our destination. Each piece remains faithful to a practice of breaking the old to make way for the new. We move through an unknown production journey, treating every technical breakthrough and act of self-disruption as a treasure more precious than the finished artifact.

Now, at year’s end, we look back and find these four movements to be our clearest footprints—reminders of how we distilled a year of adventure, trial and error, and a pure hunger for creation into four deeply felt works, ultimately shaping a fresh, unfolding soundscape.

In terms of rhythm design and tonal structure, the album subtly hints at an archaic journey of exploration. Complex sound layers evolve and overlap, with separated drum beats from different sources weaving together and being reassembled into entirely new rhythmic forms. These fleeting sonic reactions appear almost as an organised sequence that ensures cohesiveness and depth throughout the album. However, the most striking element remains the overwhelming and omnipresent atmosphere that permeates the experience. Bionickle 01 - Insomnior - [ i ]

This marks the beginning—a first step in Bionickle’s journey. Hei and Ray emerge as versatile sound designers, producers, and performers who express their creativity through experimental, generative sound design under the alias Insomnior.

The project “Insomnior” represents a collaborative exploration between Hei and Ray, where calculated randomness converges with psychedelic, generative soundscapes deeply rooted in themes of insomnia. Together, they create an atmospheric realm infused with shadowy undertones and a palpable sense of tension, delivering an auditory experience that is both immersive and otherworldly.

[i] serves as an open letter to the self—an introspective communication from inner intelligence. Drawing upon intimate, fragmented sentences that reflect internal thoughts and dialogues, the project curates a deeply narrative shape by sound design inspired by these themes. The result is a mesmerising synthesis—hypnotic in its essence—that fuses ambient textures, layered delays, and complex rhythmic patterns into a singular sonic tapestry. Each composition is intricately woven to balance contrasts: from sparse metallic echoes to warm organic acoustic tones, creating an expansive and infinite soundscape that defies boundaries.
