Oop, not us posting twice in one day 😂
We just came up for air from finishing Sula, (see you in a bit at Book Club tonight @nobodysdarlingbar ) and had to remember to say thank you!
thank you because many of you supported Deangelo and the Dandelion before it was a physical thing. Some of these purchases were made during pre-order at the @printersrowfest when Roy was just reading the manuscript from some printed paper, no book in sight 😂!
some of you believed in it and cried as Roy read it @ilhumanities last summer!
we know that in times like these it’s hard to spend money on extra things. We here at @rapbrary always believe that in any moment in time, and especially in the dark ages, books will always be a great investment.
We just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting the first published book from our small, but mighty, special library and publishing house.
More to come, but thank you now!!!
If you’ve purchased a copy, be on the lookout, and check your mailboxes for the cute little @rapbrary bags!!
Thank you for seeing Deangelo! You helped bring it from a seed to life.
The Year of the Dandelion continues… 🌼🌼🌼🌼

Telling Stories
from Yo Lil Friend (Moonlight) off Dandelions: Gods Don’t Cry

April is for the Poets! And the Librarians!
On the one year anniversary of Dandelions: Gods Don’t Cry, I present the next part in the Dandelions Universe: Deangelo and the Dandelion, my first children’s book.
This is actually the fourth piece in the Dandelions/Rapbrary Universe. In one year: a poetry book, an album, a documentary (Rapbrarian: Reading Came First), and now this.
I had the audacity to believe I could do it, and then I did it.
After a dark period, burnout, stress, doubt, missed goals, grants that didn’t come through, and rejections you didn’t see… look at what me and God did together.
Thank you to every donor and collaborator who helped bring this to life. We didn’t hit the full goal, but we got close, and we still made it happen.
I’m proud. I’m humbled. And I’m affirmed thinking about this story reaching the kids who need it.
This summer, help me get these books into classrooms and into the hands of young readers.

#NationalLibraryWeek

It’s #NationalLibraryWeek and I have a confession!
I didn’t always want to be a librarian. Growing up, it just wasn’t a consideration. Even being raised up in libraries, I didn’t think of the profession as an option for me. I wanted tobe something sexier, like an architect. A ball player. A rapper. A radio dj. A psychiatrist (I still think about this one.)
Embarrassingly enough, I don’t think it truly hit me until I was in my Graduate Program at @dominicanu that I understood the path before me. All of my previous life experiences, and studies merging to reveal to me my purpose.
I began to see clearly a path where I can archive in real time through rap, where I can write a book and add it to a collection, where I can travel around identifying places that could use a few more books, or an entire library collection, and building it there, one where I can identify people, as social librarians and help them along their paths, one where I can challenge stereotypes by doing my work well, one where I can challenge representation by creating, one where I can help people understand the importance of literature and storytelling and other poetic devices that exist within this culture, all while highlighting rap as a place where so much history can be held, and so many lessons can be passed.
I’m walking into this week with a deeper understanding of purpose and passion, and in knowing sometimes purpose chooses a person. I’m proud to be chosen for this mission.
We have so much work to do, but I’m simultaneously humbled and proud by the work I’ve done on behalf of public libraries and the special library I’ve founded, @rapbrary
If you know a librarian making a difference, let them know this week!
Happy National Library Week!
