The new Dieter Rams Style Room exhibition @museumangewandtekunst in Frankfurt focuses primarily on the development and evolution of specific product types—exemplified by radio-phono combinations and the T 1000 world receiver. Alongside design sketches, the exhibition features—for the first time—the reconstructed model of a vertical design variant that Dieter Rams had actually preferred. Even though Dieter Rams has largely withdrawn from public life, he continues to follow the global design scene and serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the non-profit foundation he established more than 30 years ago together with his wife, Ingeborg. For just over three years now, the foundation has maintained a broader scope of activities; it operates the Rams Archive at the Museum of Applied Arts in Frankfurt and, for the past three years, has been presenting a traveling exhibition on his design philosophy across the USA, Italy, Turkey, and at several venues in China. In September, the exhibition will be on view at Tama University—Japan’s most prominent design school—in Tokyo. Furthermore, the foundation maintains the extensive website www.rams-foundation.org that not only documents the work of the Rams couple but also offers commentary on current design developments through interviews and essays. Wir sagen herzlichen Glückwunsch zum 94. Geburtstag an Dieter Rams und freuen uns diesbezüglich unsere Neueinrichtung des „Dieter Rams Stilraums" zu eröffnen! 💐

Die Ausstellung fokussiert sich vor allem auf die Entwicklung und Weiterentwicklung von Gerätetypen, wie den Radio-Phono-Kombinationen oder dem hier zusehenden Weltempfänger T1000. Neben Entwurfsskizzen wird erstmals das rekonstruierte Modell einer Entwurfsvariante gezeigt, die Dieter Rams eigentlich bevorzugt hätte. Weitere Beispiele sind gestalterische Metamorphosen von Blitzgeräten, Diaprojektoren, Filmkameras oder Hi-Fi-Receivern.

The exhibition focuses primarily on the development and evolution of device types, such as radio-turntable combinations or the T1000 world receiver shown here. In addition to design sketches, the reconstructed model of a design variant that Dieter Rams would actually have preferred is being exhibited for the first time. Further examples include design transformations of flash units, slide projectors, film cameras and hi-fi receivers.

The Hamburg-based Braun expert Hartmut Jatzke-Wigand was also present at the 2026 edition of the Braun+Design fair in Kronberg last Saturday. He is running the website www.designundtext.com with many valuable articles by him and also with contributions by the late Braun collector and expert Jo Klatt with whom Jatzke-Wigand collaborated for many years. We recommend the extensive interview that both conducted with Dr. Fritz Eichler, a few weeks before he died in 1991. It's on the website.
