Teaching the Low Res Photo Intensive course through @g44photo is a highlight of my year. As a group of ten, we collectively explore many approaches to photography by looking, discussing and experimenting.
Here’s some phone snaps from last year’s edition by me, @christiennecuevas and @mapotato
This year the course runs every Sunday in May and June. It’s co-taught by me and @camiillerojas. Learn more and register for one of the remaining spots at gallery44.org.

A Paradise for Thorncliffe Park was commissioned by Waard Ward for their current show at @dmg_utsc (closing this Saturday!)
1. The main part of the exhibition centres on the memory of the garden of the Nanaa family’s former home in Syria. For this image in the facing room, we decide to balance those feelings by imagining to a hopeful, bountiful future.
2. The image is a composite of dozens of photos taken at the site of a community garden created by Waard Ward. (But most of the roses bushes are from wild roses off site, plus there are other secret bits included for viewer who take a closer look.)
3. Early version of the image real as too real in studio visits, so I actually make it look more fake, for instance doubling up balconies.
4. The harvested bush is a reference to the use of Damask Roses as an agricultural crop in Syria. The room also included ceramic by @annemcamp made for recipes with rose flower water.
5. How the actual garden looked just after it was planted in 2022.

Some views of “a rose gives its fragrance even to the hand that crushes it” at @dmg_utsc until March 29.
I just revisited the show and the rose bushes that were dormant at the opening are filling up with new growth!
Waard Ward invited a handful of artists to collaborate on this show which lead to a collection of new interconnected works.

Some overdue documentation of my install for @art_in_the_open.
Essentially I just made a mini version of my studio, and showed visitors how to use foraged clay, flowers, shells and seaweed to make vessels and photograms.
