Last year i went to my first rocking battle at @battleofthemonth and reached the finals, it was an honor to come back this year and take it. 🙏🏽

The last 4 years i've been putting alot of my time and effort into rocking and i will keep studying this dance forever. This dance has changed my life and i want to keep learning and enjoying this culture with all people i have met along the way these 4 years and those who i still have to meet 🤍

Thomas Hablous, aka Pumarock, began breaking at age eight and later discovered Rockdance, training with pioneers worldwide. After competing internationally and joining the legendary Dynamic Spinners crew and Underdogs crew he’s been sharing his passion for his craft, Thomas is dedicated to growing the Rockdance community and inspiring the next generation of dancers through building community with @rockingnl in the Netherlands.

What is rock dance?
Rockdance is one of the first street dance styles that emerged in New York. This style was a response to gang culture and the difficult social and political conditions in the city. Instead of using violence on the streets, young people used dance as a way to resolve conflicts. They did this without physical contact, “hitting” each other through dance. Unlike other dance styles, where you often dance one at a time, in Rockdance you dance simultaneously with your opponent. In many dance battles, you have thirty to sixty seconds each turn, whereas in Rockdance, you dance the entire song together.
Rockdance is influenced by various dance styles from the 1960s, such as Salsa, Mambo, Hustle, Lofting, Disco, and Party Dances. The style consists of four main elements: Freestyle, Jerks, Burns, and Music.
