“Under the Placemat,” choreographed by Precious Ellis, is a conceptual exploration that reveals the hidden narratives of BIPOC communities navigating a world shaped by systemic beliefs. Through movement, sound, and a massive cloth installation, this work will explore the weight of stereotypes, protection, and existence. It is both a mirror and a meditation, inviting audiences to reflect on what is seen, what is hidden, and what remains unspoken. 

“Under the Placemat” is not designed for comfort. Will our story be deemed acceptable for the stage?

Music composition by Deanna Watkins, Ronny “Cash” Jones, spoken word by Amari Rathers, mixing by Don Nichols, and set design by Stephanie Losleben.

Hello everyone 👋 my name is David Stanek and I’m highjacking your friend’s page to share this cool thing that they’re a part of.

I am from Ahwatukee, Arizona, which until 2016 was a very isolated community from the rest of Phoenix.

Over the past 10 years Ahwatukee (and the greater Maricopa County) has been the center of some massive cultural changes. At best it’s been amazing seeing the city I grew up positively evolve. In other instances it’s been disheartening seeing the ways our little community still has to grow in accepting one another.

We are shooting a film about this. About personal and community changes, politics, isolation, the fears, the lessons, and the acceptances, all being shot in Phoenix, Arizona -
and we’re making it a Musical.

Yes. A Musical.

How will we do it? With your help.

We have started the timer on a 45 day @seedandspark campaign, which means we have to earn $8,000 minimum in an all-or-nothing bid to successfully raise enough to financially get this project off the ground.

We’ll be sharing more, but @ronnycashlife is involved as our lead and musical director. His music really rocks.

Recap from JJTC Intensive in Orsolina Art Foundation
This post is 2 in 1. First of all I wanna support my best friend with first album that she released today and there is no better way for me as a filmmaker to support than to do a dance/music video on some of fav songs.
Second of all and maybe it supposed to go first but idk. Some of the moments I captured during best time of my life in @orsolina28 with @__jjtc__ @jacobjonasthecompany 🌿 There is still a lot on my mind that I couldn’t proceed yet but the changes that have already started in my life simply fascinating me in very unexpected ways. I can’t wait to see what’s waiting for me next and who I become by deciding new directions every second. Thanks for this beautiful week JJTC and Orsolina. This is for sure included to the list of most alive experiences.
