overlooked installed in the Hood Museum's Class of 1967 gallery. Photos by Rob Strong.

overlooked – curated by Tricia Treacy
March 28 – June 20, 2026
Hood Museum

Featuring many prints never before on view, overlooked invites viewers to slow down, contemplate, and look longer. Printmaking techniques include photogravure, stonecut, woodcut, lithography, aquatint, mokuhanga, and silkscreen. In dialogue with one another, these works tell collective stories through their textures, layers, fields of color, distortions, and qualities unique to each printmaking medium.

This exhibition was curated in collaboration with Studio Art 28: Advanced Printmaking in Winter 2026. It is organized by the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth, and generously supported by The Harrington Gallery Fund.

I’ve stepped away from social media, slowly unfolding a new body of work in the studio ….. the shift in scale has carried me forward.

BABF 2025: Tricia Treacy

Tricia Treacy is an interdisciplinary artist and educator raised in an Irish American family whose experimental and collaborative practice spans the fields of publishing to participatory projects. She attempts to blur the boundaries between art and design while extending the notion of a book. Her work is narrative and tactile, and should be experienced with hands, slowly. Her work invites us to look at the structures that shape our world, stillness, notions of privacy, the grids that underlie our buildings and landscapes, maps and patterns that emerge through sound and touch, the interconnectedness between humans and non-humans.

The unfolding library, curated by Tricia Treacy + Denise Bookwalter prompted artists/designers to make a new artist book (in the broadest interpretation) within 6 weeks about a passage of time.
… : . . . This collection of book objects were first shown at the Bergen Art Book Fair in Norway, while the publication was being completed.

This video is of the publication that archives the project. This riso + letterpress printed book is a limited edition of 100, wrapped in a letterpress printed poster. The first few books are for sale at the #sfartbookfair today, tomorrow, + Sunday at @DeMerritt.Pauwels table (C15). ___ : : . . . . Starting next week, books can be purchased directly from my website.#letterpress #artistbooks #collaboration #risograph #bookobject#time#archive#folding#printmedia#bed#yellowbed#pool

Last days of the artist book + print show, Tangles, Clippings, with Denise Bookwalter + Nora Pauwels at Galerie Druck & Buch in Vienna, Austria.

This exhibition highlights a collection of print and book works from Bookwalter, Pauwels and Treacy — who worked together in various iterations and collaborations. Their artistic practices entangle gestures and observations involving imperfect structures like ecology, conventional habits, synthetic objects, machine-and-human made grids, rituals, and visual systems. Botanical themes explore ideas of documentation, typology, portraits of a neighborhood, climate change, and containment — archiving the everyday and ordinary.

It was great to add our collaborative book, Memory, Life, Manual Index, 2022 (Denise Bookwalter, Aaron Cohick, Tricia Treacy) created at Small Craft Advisory Press in FL over several years.

Thanks to our amazing gallerist, Susanne, and all those that came out for the opening from near and far + got to see the work throughout the last month.

Exhibition opening > Thursday, September 26, 2024–6:00 to 9:00pm CET
American Academy in Rome, AAR Gallery, Via Angelo Masina, 5, 00153 Rome, Italy, Free admission

Artists Making Books: Pages of Refuge, an exhibition looking at the relationship between arts, graphic design, publishers, and books—ultimately exploring their physicality and their power of circulation. Artists Making Books is based around the books that Ed Ruscha donated to the AAR Library while visiting the Academy in 2001. The exhibition brings together over one hundred books envisioned, conceived, and made by artists from 1905 to the present, from AAR’s Arthur & Janet Ross Library and two major private Italian collections.

Carrying experiences and experiments, the exhibition will explore the intrinsic qualities of books with a particular focus on the experimentation of artists with the medium. From materiality and size, letter presses to pamphlets, three-dimensional constructions, source engines, and classifications, artists who make books conceptualize and redesign the media.

The show will display early examples of modernist books by European artists Natalia Goncharova, Tristan Tzara, Fortunato Depero, and Marcel Duchamp, as well as work by artists associated with Pop art such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and John Baldessari. Also featured will be works prominent contemporary artists that have been AAR Residents such as Kara Walker (2016), Jenny Holzer (2004), and William Kentridge (2011, 2016); books by Rome Prize Fellows including Ana Mendieta (1984), Tony Cokes (2023), Rochelle Feinstein (2018), Tricia Treacy (2018), and Allen Frame (2018); and work by Italian Fellows Luca Vitone (2009), Nico Vascellari (2008), Marco Raparelli (2011) and Rä di Martino (2018).

The exhibition will be open from September 27 to December 7, 2024

The exhibition is designed by Supervoid, an architecture office based in Rome led by the architects Benjamin Gallegos Gabilondo, Marco Provinciali, and Anna Livia Friel.

Clippings is a visual conversation between Denise Bookwalter, Nora Pauwels, and Tricia Treacy. This book was produced as a record of the intersection of their practices for their exhibition at Galeria Druck & Buch in Vienna, Austria in fall 2024. It acts as a catalog that entwines snippets from their individual work. When experienced together in this hand-sewn book, a visual story of their artistic processes intersects and archives ways in which their work can be shared inside the gallery and beyond.

It was designed + produced by Tricia Treacy + Maggie Minor in New Hampshire in the summer of 2024. It is Risograph printed with a Letterpress cover in an edition of 100.

Today, after returning to the studio, I found something special - it turned out that Tricia, who visited us a few weeks ago, left a surprise - a beautiful book she designed - along with birds we generated (she turned them into riso.) This is a truly unique item. one of the most beautiful in our library’s collection.

So “Synthetic” project is a spontaneous collaboration between Tricia Treacy, an American designer and book artist, and NOVIKI. This collaboration explores the intersection of contemporary book design and craft techniques ( by Tricia Treacy) with digital technologies, particularly the use of artificial intelligence (AI) introduced into the publication by NOVIKI.

In the “Synthetic” project, AI plays a role by generating birds that become symbolic figures transferred onto the book’s pages. These AI-generated birds, described as lovers of long journeys, can be interpreted as a metaphor for the movement of synthetic waste or ideas in a global context. They are simultaneously symbols of modernity and a technological commentary on contemporary ecology.

The “Synthetic” book is made by Tricia Treacy from various materials, such as paper bags, plastic, and other synthetic waste, which have been recycled and hand-transformed into artistic pages. These materials create a unique texture that combines the physical layers of materials with the conceptual layers of algorithms, which are inherently tied to modern technology.

The collaboration between Tricia Treacy and Noviki in “Synthetic” is, therefore, a fascinating example of the dialogue between craftsmanship and digital creation. The book not only explores the boundaries between analog and digital but also addresses themes of aesthetics and ecology in an era dominated by synthetic materials.
