Analysis of this cornerstone Australian brand & their customer typologies distilled the need for clarity and simplicity in the design, enabling the growing product range to be showcased in fresh and creative ways.

Designing for growth and change was achieved through the creation of a modular kit of parts that enables ongoing reconfiguration and renewal across sites.

Components address not only the display of a vast and changing product range, but include hospitality-inspired cues, like reception desks with tea & coffee. An Australian suite of feature lighting & soft furnishings imbue spaces with warmth, character and functionality.

Coinciding with Laminex’s 90th, we were tasked with reimagining their showrooms across Australia, starting with Melbourne. The goal was to create a design language that showcased an ever-expanding product collection with clarity and creativity.

The new concept frames Laminex products with the simplicity of a gallery and the warmth of a domestic setting. Softer residential touches, like low pendant lighting, create a lived-in atmosphere, ensuring each showroom feels both professional and approachable. The result is a physical presence that reflects Laminex’s legacy while engaging their diverse customer set.

Aquila, Australia.

The new concept has now been rolled out across four locations in Victoria and New South Wales.

The language has both lifted the overall experience of the brand and maximised efficiency; enabling Aquila to capitalise on smarter footprints. At Highpoint, the first new-format store achieved stronger sales per square metre on a smaller floorplate, proving the impact of a system that balances design ambition with commercial performance.

Aquila, Australia.

We started by mapping Aquila’s customer journeys, and store network to understand how their audience really shop. From these insights, we created a simple and adaptable design language with spatial rhythms that define product categories, displays that flex with campaigns, and layouts that feel intuitive.

The result is an experience that is easy to navigate, yet rewarding in detail.

As part of a wider repositioning project, premium men’s shoe and accessories brand @aquila_est1958 asked us to create a retail design framework that merged Italian heritage with a contemporary Australian lifestyle.

The vision was to create a design system of refined, confident, and easy to navigate stores across a diverse network of store typologies.

@vics.meat retail vision has now come to life across three sites — Bondi, Chatswood Chase, and Chadstone. Each is finely tuned to its setting, while sharing the Vic’s DNA: immersive, abundant, and crafted to connect people with product.

Since opening, Chatswood Chase was recognised at the 2025 @auinteriordesignawards with the Retail Design of the Year. Chadstone has been shortlisted for Retail Design in the 2025 Eat Drink Design Awards.

For us, the recognition affirms what close collaboration can achieve: impactful design that delivers both brand resonance and design excellence.

Our starting point with @vics.meat was to create a clear design language. The challenge was to create a framework that could scale across different sites while still feeling authentic and distinctive to each location.

We developed a Kit of Parts — modular displays, lighting strategies, and tactile finishes — that could flex to suit a range of different store locations and typologies. The aim was consistency without repetition: a shared language that keeps product and craft at the centre.

This was achieved through a close, collaborative process with the @vics.meat and @studio_round teams.

@vics.meat came to us with a clear ambition: to translate the reputation that made them trusted by Australia’s best restaurants into a direct-to-customer experience. The goal was to create a retail concept for Vic’s where expertise, quality and the craft of butchery could be felt as strongly as they were seen.

Our role was to build the spatial framework and design language that realised this ambition. Each store was to be grounded in its own context, yet all share an unmistakably Vic’s character — rooted in heritage, expressed with a contemporary edge.

The interior of the new Koko Black Chadstone flagship is an immersive and playful wonderland of chocolate.

The hero praline counter anchors the retail environment and allows for customer engagement on all 4 sides.

A hot chocolate kiosk, visible through the shopfront, marks the store entry providing more ways to indulge and explore.

The entry to Koko Black, Chadstone is framed by pivoting doors punctuated with playful portholes abstracted from the iconic logo.

Purposefully framed and softly illuminated, the threshold signals a shift in pace — inviting visitors into an immersive animated retail environment. It’s both a gesture and a guide: referencing the brand’s geometry while shaping the customer’s first impression.

This moment reflects the wider intent of the design — to create a space of intrigue and exploration, one that is distinctly Koko Black.

The new Koko Black flagship store is now open at the Chadstone Market Pavilion. In collaboration with the team at Koko Black we’ve continued to evolve the retail design language to support the brand’s growth.

The interior brings together warm materials and bold geometry punctuated with playful focal points — offering an engaging space for customers to explore. Colours and forms take cues from the brand’s visual identity, while native timber and fluted finishes add texture and depth.
