Well folks, ‘Clara’s Room’, now has a permanent home online. ❤️Thank you @nowness for the premiere, Clara’s Room is available on the Nowness website as part of the @nowness ‘Picks’ programme.

I made Clara’s Room when I was 19 years old. The film won the Best Inaugural First Frames Award at @dublinfilmfestival in 2020, and picked up some others during its two year long festival run (which happened almost entirely online because of the Pandemic) and was most recently showcased as part of @bfifilmacademy Scene: Music and Movement, curated by @lucyfenwickelliott. For anyone interested, there is an interview currently on the @bfifilmacademy where I talk more about this film and its process.

Check it out on @nowness ‘Picks’ via the link in my bio.

Hello. So. I'm releasing music on Friday. It's an important one for me. Lots of songs, pretty much all of which are a collaboration with Rory Sweeney @rory_sweeney123
It's kind of a concept record. It's about wanting everything or nothing. It's about never feeling satisfied. It's about pain, release, otherworldly creatures. It's about coping. Hoping. Connection.

There are 7 songs, 8 on Bandcamp and Soundcloud, but 8 everywhere else, as Spring Came is already out on Spotify under Rory's name, but it makes sense in the amalgam of songs on Hungry Ghost. There's a dream recording. There's a dubby thing. There's an almost acapella thing. There's some synthpop, and there's a song about falling in love.

It's my first EP, and really, a lot of blood, sweat, and (honestly) some tears went into its making, but it's finally here. It's coming out. I've kind of figured out what I want to do with my music through this record, and I've learned so much about making music in the process.

Stream it. Save it. Share it. It's experimental, it's emotional, it's not everyone's bag—but if you have the time, listen to some of it, and if you're into it, share it with others. It helps me a lot. I'm just so delighted to finally release these tracks, to finish a project, to be proud of it, and then to get back into making more.

For everyone who has supported me so far with this—helped create it, come to gigs of mine (even the super janky early ones where I was figuring it all out)—thank you. Thanks for supporting me. Thanks for the love and encouragement. I can't wait for people to hear some of these tracks, and I can't wait to celebrate it all with those who are coming to the release gig on Saturday.

You can presave the EP through the link in my bio, and the songs drop at midnight on Friday, October 18.

Hello! I have come out of hibernation to release my take on The Foggy Dew (feat. Rory Sweeney).

Been performing this at live shows for the last couple years, delighted to have it out in time for Paddy’s day (I adore Sinéad O’Connor’s version so much, and wanted to do my own spin on it).

When it was written, The Foggy Dew asserted that small nations should fight for their own freedom and identity rather than shed blood for the causes of larger, corrupt powers.

This is a synth-driven, atmospheric cover of the beloved Irish rebel song, which reimagines the traditional arrangement (perhaps made most famous by Sinéad), with synthy, glitchy electronic production. It has been produced with Rory Sweeney. @rory_sweeney123

This release feels unintentionally relevant, not just because St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner, but because of the uneasiness of everything right now. The Foggy Dew was written by Fr. Charles O’Neill, though it may be older, and chronicles the Easter Rising of 1916. It encouraged Irish men and women to fight for the cause of Ireland rather than for the British Empire, as so many young men were doing in World War I. This is a song of the oppressed.
An anti-imperialist song. A protest song. It is a product of the political situation in Ireland at that time, written to commemorate the few hundred brave men and women who rose up against what was then the most powerful and oppressive empire in the world.

In more recent years The Foggy Dew has been popularised by Conor McGregor (arsehole) and by uglier sides of Irish nationalism, and the Irish far right. Which is a shame, though the well known melody and meaning of the Foggy Dew song does not, can not, belong to those who use it for exclusion.

So though modern in its production, perhaps this cover still retains the clarity of the song’s original message.

Please enjoy our version of the Irish classic, The Foggy Dew! Out now, wherever you get your music. 🐍☘️🌫️
