Cola:
C.O.L.A. is sort of a self-titled album. It’s an acronym for Cost of Living Adjustment, a fitting conceptual framework for the band’s third record. Why? Because C.O.L.A. considers, among other things, socialism vs. hell. It considers: rolling the dice of life. The eerie and sweet pangsthat nostalgia can provoke. This is not new territory for band members Tim Darcy, Evan Cartwright, and Ben Stidworthy. It is, in Cartwright’s words “a deepening of what we’ve been doing.” C.O.L.A. is an intricate, beautiful, and sometimes strange record. It is the band’s most refined offering. A perfection of carefully honed aesthetic impulses.

@band_cola , as a band, says Darcy is defined by its “tasteful minimalism.” A deep appreciation for making music that is romantic, subtle, and deceptively intense. C.O.L.A., however, is the band’s most maximalist work to date. This is a little tongue and cheek (“We were so worried,” says Cartwright, “About all the songs on this record being too different”). In practice, this maximalism means that a song like “Hedgesitting,” has both live drums and a sample drum loop. “Hedgesitting,” is a gorgeous, lush song. It’s like a deconstructed, chopped & screwed b-side from the Cure’s Disintegration. It’s also a little indebted to Sarah Records. “When you were young,” Darcy sings at the song’s start, “you came to make it.”

@raadnelunger plays Detroit rock (think MC5, Death and Sonic’s Rendezvous Band) mixed with early hardcore punk like Hüsker Dü and the Dead Kennedys, as well as Miles Davis’s electric excursions.
At the end of February, the band released their second album, ‘Motorsnav’, which pays tribute to both the joys of psychotropic medication, the bankrupt, alcoholic and deceased Finnish ski jumper Matti Nykänen, as well as the moist and the kinky.
“A lost and angry lament”, “hard-hitting and boundary-pushing” and “catchy punk bangers from another world”, wrote Passive/Aggressive, among others, about Rådne Lunger’s debut album from 2021.

Brunsten play music inspired by the post-hardcore and noise rock scenes of the 80s and 90s, but the group puts its own unique spin on the genre. They play loud, hard and on the edge - the band’s tracks are simple yet sophisticated.
Brunsten consists of three experienced musicians who have all, over the years, been extremely active on the Aarhus and Aalborg underground and avant-garde scenes. These include bands such as Cola Freaks, Båndet, Fossils, Double Space, Sons Of Cain, Glamour Coma and SOL. The band is currently working on new material and will be heading into the studio this August.

Being deeply connected to traditional music, both the mugham and ashiq traditions, Rəhman Məmmədli has managed to transpose these genres onto the electric guitar through his creation of new and distinct playing techniques. His ability to emulate the voice of classic mugham singers led to him being given the nickname “the man with singing fingers”.

The blazing sounds of the “Azerbaijani Gitara” sprang from one of the most tumultuous and transformative periods in Azerbaijan’s history, capturing both the spirit and the contradictions of its time.

In the years since, Rəhman Məmmədli has become the emblem of this unique musical style and subculture that developed around the electric guitar. Next to the late Rüstəm Quliyev, whose “Azerbaijani Gitara” (Bongo Joe Records, 2020) introduced the West to the genre, sounding a bit like surf music to the untrained ear, Rəhman is the uncrowned king of this scene, often going live on social media for hours on end, shredding.

The first European shows of the sharp-dressed, mild-mannered guitar god of the Caucasus in November 2023, went down a storm, and we are over the moon about the possibility of having him in Aarhus in 2026. Rəhman’s group features his son Tural on keyboards and Elshad Abdulrahimov on percussion.

Rəhman was born in 1961 in the Fuzuli district of Karabakh and grew up surrounded by and immersed in the music of that region. In his childhood, he had already mastered the garmon-accordion before coming across the guitar. After only a few days with a guitar in his hands, he was able to play a whole range of melodies and was soon invited to join the Karabakh Ensemble as their guitarist. Following a short break from music, he began to release his own albums in the 1990s as a solo artist.

Sergio Sayeg (aka Sessa) is fascinated by “the mess” of music, “the crooked translations that music gets when it travels.” A cultural cannibal like the iconic Brazilian Tropicalistasfrom the late sixties, Sessa unapologetically and seamlessly mashes musical references,from rock to jazz to samba and soul. A Paulista (São Paulo native) by way of New York City, Sessa’s new album, Pequena Vertigem de Amor (Lil’ Vertigo of Love), expands the sonic universe he’s been building since his debut in 2019. “A bit more nocturnal, open ended, crooked funky,” Pequena Vertigem de Amor channels the late seventies slinky sophistication of Brazil’s MPB scene mixed with the psychedelic soul of Sly Stone and Shuggie Otis without straying from his sonic signature of acoustic guitar, Afro-Brazilian percussion and the dialogue between Sessa’s distinctive vocals and familial female chorus.

Duelund’s quartet is a gathering of musicians from different corners of the Copenhagen alternative music scene. Together they will interpret her recent works in a musical collage where improvisations weave in and out between Duelund’s surrealistic songs and compositions.
