We’re thrilled to welcome Philjames to the Nanda\Hobbs family.

A standout in contemporary Australian art, Philjames is renowned for his meticulous reworkings of vintage paintings and prints—seamlessly inserting characters from mid-20th century animation. These surreal and often darkly funny interventions blur the lines between high and low, sacred and profane, prompting us to rethink the cultural imagery we’ve inherited.

His practice, anchored in equal parts satire and sincerity, explores nostalgia, belief systems, and the uneasy humour bubbling beneath the surface of social order.

We’re also excited to share that his work "Still Life (Radical Survival MK2)", 2025, has just been announced as a finalist in the Mosman Art Prize—a testament to his ever-rising profile.

Philjames will make his Nanda\Hobbs debut in "NEW ROMANTICS", our bold and ambitious presentation coinciding with Sydney Contemporary and Art Week, bringing together monumental first and secondary market works. Known for pushing the boundaries of taste and tradition, his work is the perfect fit for this exhibition.
