As we begin our summer hiatus from monthly dances, it's all the more important to be on our mailing list so you'll be sure to get our fall dance schedule, hear about what fun stuff we cook up over the summer (think potential pop-ups, honky tonk, etc.), and catch any other developments as we build an organizing council and more!

Festival alert! 🚨 Helvetia Hoot is one of our absolute favorite square dance & old-time festivals, held in the adorable Swiss+West Virginian town of Helvetia. It's a weekend-long event of music, dancing, workshops, jamming, camping, and communing (and really good eating!) in an idyllic setting. It's run by two incredible rockstars, @_becky_hill_ and T-Claw, whom you may remember calling our dance over the years.

It's super affordable and only a few hours from Pittsburgh! It's a smaller festival so not overwhelming and good for kids! If you have any questions, comment below or DM us. Hope to see you there!

We've got an exciting brand new event for yinz - presenting Good 'n Country, a night of country and two-step, brought to you by Steel City Squares! It'll be a fun evening of partner dancing to live country music by the Good 'n Country house band, led by the incredible Dave Shepherd. Join us Friday, May 1st!

@412step will provide a two-step lesson at 8pm, with live music from 8:30-11. If you're feeling a little unsure about two-step or waltz, come for the lesson and then look for our designated partners who will be happy to dance and help you out, whether as a lead or follow.

This event is all ages and aims to provide an inclusive community atmosphere for enjoying classic honky tonk tunes and dancing. As with our square dances, there will be a potluck throughout, it's BYOB, and please bring a water bottle.

7pm - Doors
8pm - Two-step lesson
8:30-11 - Live music and dancing

$15 suggested donation, cash or Venmo at the door

We'll be at the lovely Shiloh Center in Lawrenceville, 3832 Mintwood St.

The Good 'n Country house band will bring you hot tunes all night- @odaveshepherd, @tuckermuetzel, @toddharteis, @ptrfreeman, and @kevin_lynch_drummer.

Square Dance & Fundraiser!

Our last regular monthly square dance for the season is gonna be an absolute party! Sat. May 23rd, join us for your usual three hours of squares, this time with rotating bands made up of our community members!

We want to give more folks the opportunity to play on stage for a dance, so If you're interested in playing 2-3 tunes, let us know! You can form your own band or we'll group people together once we see who's signed up. DM or email us with interest or questions!

*Musician interest deadline is APRIL 30th*

*Additionally, this month we will be raising money so we can buy some much-needed sound equipment! We will have concessions available, and any additional donations via cash or Venmo will be accepted at the dance. Thanks!

This month better actually have people jamming beforehand, since so many musicians will be there! We miss our pre-dance open jams. And let's go out big with a nice potluck, eh? BYOB and your water bottle.

Kids are welcome and free under 13, $15 suggested donation cash or Venmo at the door.

A huge thanks to Bobby Taylor and Kim Johnson for making the trek up from WV to play the dance last night! We know it can get loud and hard to really appreciate the music while you're having such a good time dancing, so here's a little bile dem cabbage down from a workshop and house show they played this afternoon with Annie Trimble on Guitar and Barb Rosner on bass. It doesn't get any better than this and we're so lucky to have such great live music for the dances every month!

Go big or go home we're dancing again in April! It's the exciting annual visit of caller Dave Hauver, a crowd favorite!

And we're welcoming to the stage local stringband Snappin' Bug. Led by musician and instructor Mark Tamsula, Snappin' Bug focuses on tunes from southwest PA (hey! That's where we are!) Richard Withers is on banjo, @that_dude_art on guitar, and Barb Rosner on bass.

As always, join us for a potluck, an open jam, and family-friendly fun. BYOB inc. water, cash or Venmo at the door, NOTAFLOF.

Our March dance is back to regular programming- a square dance at Shiloh! Bobby Taylor and Kim Johnson from Kanawha Tradition are coming from WV for a weekend of music and will be joined by Annie Trimble and Barb Rosner from Pgh for the band. Taylor Runner from Morgantown is calling.

Can we get an actual jam going before the dance this month? What d'you think?

Don't forget to bring your water bottle! It's ridiculous for us to have to buy and then landfill all these cups every month, don't you think?

Fear not, SQUAREDOWN! is happening again!Our second annual collaboration square dance & honky tonk with @412step is next Saturday, Feb. 21. We'll be alternating sets of square dancing, line dancing, and partner dancing, with live music by Dave Shepherd and friends! Laura Almendinger will be calling the squares and the experts at 412Step will be teaching the line and partner dances.

Note: this dance is again at Bloomfield Liedertafel!

Doors open at 7 for potluck, mingling, and an open jam, and dancing is 8-11. BYOB and your water bottle.

‼️ LOCATION CHANGE ‼️
The dance on Saturday is moved to Bloomfield Liedertafel! Spread the word!

- The venue has two floors; we are upstairs. When you enter the building, take the stairs to your left and you'll be there! (The downstairs bar is locked for non-members so you can't get in there anyway.)

- The parking lanes on Liberty Ave are mostly clear, but Mathilda, at last check, was still very snowy. Please travel safely. There are also several bus routes on Liberty.

- The schedule is still the same. Doors at 7, potluck and BYOB and old-time jam, dance 8-11.

- PLEASE bring a change of shoes. You can leave your boots on the carpeted landing as you enter. We don't want the dance floor soaking wet and covered in salt!
