For the last five months, I stepped away from my personal art practice and put my full attention into curation and art direction for one focused project: Archetype at Mission Ballroom.
We’ve been curating music alongside art-led events at Threyda’s gallery for many years. I felt inspired by the question of what would happen if that same care and intention could live inside a large-scale music venue - could art move through the entire space and shape how people felt and experienced the music?
Archetype became a way to bring a lot of people I trust into one shared moment to answer that question. At the center of it, I built the show around my longtime collaborator @android_jones , pairing his work with @ottsonic . The rest of the night was shaped the same way - pairing art and music thats connected by many visible and invisible threads.
The dialogue between art and music has always been a unique center of gravity of this community. Seeing how that dialogue could stretch and expand opened something new for me. A path towards a unique mix of emotional energy, spatial exploration, and shared intention.
Thank you to everyone who helped bring this to life. When artists are trusted to do what they do best, the intention is felt in a deeper way - and we all are uplifted as a result.
Art truly does bring people together. I can’t wait to see where it can take us next.

Join us for Painting in Paradise in Costa Rica, an art immersion for the thriving artist presented by Threyda! One week before Envision Festival, we’ll gather in Plantanillo at our beautiful retreat center Cascada Elysiana. Join Blake Foster, Morgan Mandala, Seth McMahon, Peter Westermann, Kaila Spencer, and Shannon Miguela this February for an art experience of a lifetime. We welcome all levels and guarantee to help you level up your skills and mindset around your creative practice.
