Tilt/shift lenses are often used to ‘miniaturize’ the world via the illusion of a narrow depth of field. But they can also make small environments feel enormous when tilted towards alignment with the horizon’s plane.

For this El Perro Del Mar music video we wanted it to feel as if we are flying over Connor’s drip paintings in a helicopter or plane, as they represent oil fields like the Alberta Tar Sands in Canada.

By tilting the lens toward the painting, everything that would normally fall out of focus becomes sharp. The effect gives the shot an aerial perspective.

Tilt/shift lenses are often used to ‘miniaturize’ the world via the illusion of a narrow depth of field. But they can also make small environments feel enormous when tilted towards alignment with the horizon’s plane.

For this El Perro Del Mar music video we wanted it to feel as if we are flying over Connor’s drip paintings in a helicopter or plane, as they represent oil fields like the Alberta Tar Sands in Canada.

By tilting the lens toward the painting, everything that would normally fall out of focus becomes sharp. The effect gives the shot an aerial perspective.
