The place in this world that I only shared with a few people and always kept private … only a short drive up from my home spot Drainpipes / Zuma beach is a super special place locked down by the US government lies the waves that made my life pursuit of left hand barrels possible and primed me for places like Tavarua , G-land , and Pipeline … just a kid from LA making @igsurfboards and getting barreled with the best in the world !

Dane Rippee - Rest in Paradise
He may have passed away over 11 years ago but i find myself with memories of good times with Dane and today is one of those days to share some great fotos of him !
Dane and @pdub_82 were best of friends but it was Dane’s mom that brought him by the shop ( #igboardingshop ) to order his first custom ( @igsurfboards ) board from me .
Our friendship grew and later I hired Dane to work at the shop. Later his band “Therapist” played around town, at a few of our parties , and later got 2nd place in a Volcom new band search at The Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood - a def night to remember
Later a 27 Dane was diagnosed with cancer and decided to take a trip with his then girlfriend Nicoleto Central America and around that time they were engaged and later while Dane was going thru his cancer they were married !

Along with his bandmates he put out an album titled
“Alive at 27”
.
Dan fought the battle for several years and surfed when he could with his good friends like Ryan Howard … we would all try and visit him as often as possible, but I was then living in Humboldt and on my way back from Costa Rica i saw himaround Christmas time while visiting my family.

He couldn’t eat but wanted me to grab him a sub sandwich from Italia Deli in Agoura and a butterfingers “just to smell it”
That was the last time i saw Dane .
A genius in music , language , and truly a beautiful soul.

His creativity and humor was priceless …
