Congratulations to @patrickodonovan_td on being appointed as Minister for Arts, Culture, Communications, Media and Sport.

I was very sad today to learn of the passing of former Camogie Association President, Liz Howard.
A proud Tipperary woman, a groundbreaking voice on The Sunday Game, and a passionate advocate for women in sport, Liz broke boundaries and dedicated decades to our sporting community. There are women and girls playing today because of her, and generations more to come. We owe her a debt of gratitude for her service to Gaelic games.
My thoughts are with her family and wide circle of friends at this sad time.

€19,900 secured for improvements to walking trails in Limerick!
Funding announced for two Ballyhoura projects:
🚶 The Knights Walk – €10,000
🚶 Ballyhoura Way Riverbank resurfacing – €9,900
This investment will improve trail surfaces, accessibility and help ensure these fantastic local amenities can continue to be enjoyed by walkers, families and visitors alike.
NEW: €15 million in Government support is now available to help fishing and aquaculture vessel owners with rising fuel costs.
This practical support will help protect jobs, support coastal communities and provide certainty for the sector at a critical time.
I’d encourage eligible vessel owners to engage early and apply before the deadline on 12 June.

A Gaelic Players Association delegation led by CEO Tom Parsons including Dublin hurler @chris_crummey and Westmeath footballer @lukeloughlin13 visited Leinster House today to meet Minister for Sport Patrick O’Donovan.
The meeting was arranged to mark the payment of 2025 Government Grants to male inter-county players.
€3.8 million was paid to 2,438 male footballers and hurlers since Friday in recognition of their social and economic impact, worth almost €600m annually.
The level of support reflects the welcome uplift announced in Budget 2026, provided by the Department of Sport and overseen by Sport Ireland.
Tom Parsons thanked the Minister for the continued support and paid tribute to the investment in our elite amateur athletes and national games.
A further €3.4 million will be administered in conjunction with the LGFA, the Camogie Association and the GAA to fund female expenses.

Privileged to attend today’s National Famine Commemoration, remembering all those who suffered and died during An Gorta Mór, and honouring the resilience, strength and spirit of the Irish people.
A deeply moving and important occasion to reflect on our history, our communities, and the lasting impact of the Great Famine both at home and across the world.
Well done to all who were involved in organising today’s event, particularly those from our local community.
