The first of a three parts video series that documents the works of artists in residence at PADA.

This first short film features the projects of Jesse Strikwerda, Suri Park-Woo and Hanna Orion. The exhibition, curated by Paula Ferreira, and open studios take place Saturday, 30th of May, at 18:00.

While in residence at PADA Studios @padastudios , I’ve been spending lots of time playing and working with clay at Rita Zorro Cerâmica @ritazorro in Barreiro.

These pieces began from the machine parts, ruins, and tiny broken remnants I found wandering around Barreiro’s industrial area. I’ve been slowly transforming these “dead fragments” into ceramic forms, trying to hold traces of memory and little echoes left behind by CUF and its history.

This is the first fragment from the series.

A warm thank you to Rita for helping me shape these ceramic drawings from the soil of Portugal. And so much love to Hanna @hannaorion — my lovely ceramic studio mate — whose beautiful works and energy have inspired me throughout this process ♡


PADA Studios에서의 레지던시 기간 동안 바헤이루에 위치한 세라믹 스튜디오 Rita Zorro에서 도자 작업을 해오고 있습니다. CUF 구역 안 Industrial Park에서 발견했던 크고 작은 부품들과 그 파편들의 형태에서 영감을 받아 ‘죽은 파편’ 조각들을 도자의 형태로 만들고 있는데요. 도자기에는 CUF 에서의 기억과 과거의 흔적들을 새겨보고자 했습니다. 그 중 첫번째 파편을 기록해봅니다.

포르투갈의 흙으로 빚은 도자기 드로잉을 만들 수 있게 도와준 너무나도 훌륭한 세라믹 스튜디오 Rita Zorro에게 감사함을 표하며… 많은 영감을 준 멋진 도자 작업 메이트 Hanna에게도 큰 사랑을!!!! 🤍

PADA Studios에서의 레지던시 기간 동안 바헤이루에 위치한 세라믹 스튜디오 Rita Zorro에서 도자 작업을 해오고 있습니다. CUF 구역 안 Industrial Park에서 발견했던 크고 작은 부품들과 그 파편들의 형태에서 영감을 받아 ‘죽은 파편’ 조각들을 도자의 형태로 만들고 있는데요. 도자기에는 CUF 에서의 기억과 과거의 흔적들을 새겨보고자 했습니다. 그 중 첫번째 파편을 기록해봅니다.

왜일까? Y와의 첫만남에서 부터, 그와 대화를 나눌 때는 안전하다는 기분이 들었다. 무엇에서부터 오는 느낌인지 정확히 알지는 못했다. Y와 대화할 때 나는 미술 세계 안에 있을까? 밖에 있을까? 오락가락하는 것일까? 아무튼 억지로 몸을 부풀리지 않게 되는데, 그게 좋다.

Y에게 작년이 끝나갈 무렵 나의 작업에 대한 글을 부탁했다. Y의 언어로 나의 작업이 번역되기 시작했다. 경계에 있는 단어들이 등장했다. Y의 언어들 위에 나의 작업들이 아슬아슬하게 서 있기를 즐기는 것 같단 기분도 들었다. 그에게 번역이란 정확함의 윤리가 아니라 불완전함을 감수하는 태도인 것만 같았다.
