CITY OF DANCE
A citywide program of free public performances
Presented by L.A. Dance Project and Paris Dance Project
June 2 to 7 and 17 to 21, 2026

CENTURY PARK
City of Dance premieres next week at Century Park
As part of The Century Park Edit
2000 Avenue of the Stars

Tuesday June 2 at 12:30 PM
Wednesday June 3 at 12:30 PM
Thursday June 4 at 12:30 PM

RSVP is not required, but is recommended.
Full details and all locations in bio.

Presented by L.A. Dance Project and Paris Dance Project, City of Dance is a free public program that activates sites across Los Angeles and proposes a simple but radical idea: to take dance out of the theater and bring it into shared public spaces. The body carries history, and so does the city. Bringing dance out of the jewel box of the theater, a space some may not feel invited into or able to access, allows those histories to meet in the open, where movement and place can speak to one another.

Set to Philip Glass’s score for the non narrative film Koyaanisqatsi (1982), five choreographers respond to the music: Dimitri Chamblas, Madeline Hollander, Benjamin Millepied, Jamar Roberts, and Pam Tanowitz.

Set to Philip Glass’s score for Koyaanisqatsi, five choreographers — Dimitri Chamblas, Madeline Hollander, Benjamin Millepied, Jamar Roberts, and Pam Tanowitz — each respond to a section of the music, creating a unified work that reflects on technology, modern life, and a world out of balance.

L.A. Dance Project and Paris Dance Project present the U.S. premiere of City of Dance in 2026.

L.A. Dance Project presents this new edition with a newly commissioned section, with foundational support from Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels.

“There is a sacred connection to Jean-Sébastien Bach, but I wanted to work on improvisation to make the rhythmic work interesting.” Kim Brandstrup

Saison 2025/2026
Mai 2026
Librairie 7L, Paris 7e

“I’m a contemporary dancer and a hip-hop dancer; there’s a classical way of counting in these dances. What happened tonight, to Bach’s music, is yet another way of counting the rhythm.”

“The way I work is simple: there is no collective listening to the pieces, but rather the creation of a ‘shared dialogue,’ a common language from which the dancers communicate with one another.” Kim Brandstrup

Following the presentation, Kim Brandstrup and the three dancers Abe Taylor, Juan de la Blanca, and Marcos Pelado Herrera, engaged in a discussion with journalist Sophie Marchand and the audience.

Together, they explored the concept of the rhythm of movement and the choreographic vocabulary born from an encounter with or the listening to music.
